I am hoping to get into the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester this week.If not this week it will be quite soon.Does anybody want anything checked or looked up.Parish Registers or Census Returns preferably but if you want something harder you will have to give me a bit of leeway.

Sharon, whereabouts is the Records Office you are going to - not the same building as the Military Police place is it by any chance? Jan :-)

I was thinking about Wednesday/Thursday. I want to lookup the PRs for Petworth Bignor and Sutton. Plus a little research in Duncton and Farnhurst, and maybe a little peek at Islip/Stedham. And as for you winding up little Ron, I have only been to the Chi RO once before, although I live in Gosport. It is only recently that I found that my Roots passed through that area.

Jim it's Iping and Fernhurst.My great grandfather was known as the Duke of Dumpford,he was only a farm labourer and I don't know why he got the name.That is in Trotton,next to Stedham.Perhaps we are related,you wouldn't want that,trust me! The RO is at the very far end of West Street.There are some Royal West Sussex Regiment records still in the barracks I believebut the curator is a bit sniffy.West Street is where the cathedral is.There are some parking spaces for the RO but you need to book them.That is the County Hall car park off Orchard Street.Otherwise I would park in the Avenue de Chartre car park to the south of the city.it looks like a fairground helter-skelter I think,near the station.It's not a bad walk around Ave de C.

Hi Sharron Thanks for the offer Does the Records Office cover the Slaugham and Horsham areas of Sussex, as I was wondering if you could look for any Mary Ann Walder or Mary Ann Roberts baptisms from 1 Jan 1864 to August 1864 in Warninglid or Slaugham parish church, if you can. Thanks Ben

Hi i must be the daftest living human, I live in Chichester and never once did it cross my mind to go to the records office here! DOH!!! do they charge fo looking up stuff etc? never been to one of them before and interested in the history of Ryman house in chi. corrina

HI I popped in their last week - by chance as was on holiday that way. No they don't charge for you browsing . You should take in ID such as as a driving lic though. I didn't have anything with my address on me though & they let me in on a day pass. Penny

Can't do Lewes,that's East Sussex,I'll have a look but I don't think there will be anything.Don't know where Ore is,I'll have to look on the road atlas but I think it's in East as well.Sometimes there is a bit of an overlap.If you are going to Chichester RO please remember that Little Ron is mine,no touching ,handling or otherwise interfering with his being,however much he pleads.I may not have need for him at present but you never know do you! No problem with Slaugham,I'll do that ,must remember to make a note.
