You will need (items not necessarily in priority order): sharp pencils with erasers on the end a CARN ticket which you can forget every time you visit an archive a road map (so that you can see how far Blinkshire is from Bloggsville - and find that obscure parish which will be in a fold on the page) a large bottle of aspirin ' ' ' ' gin more paper than you can get from the average forest. You will need this for: an alphabetical index of surnames an alphabetical index of parishes an alphabetical index of place names an alphabetical index of occupations - so you can quickly find out what a nadger's gruntfuttock slopper was a folder for information on various topics - parishes, prisons, etc. a folder with an index to the information on various topics a folder with an index to your indexes a flexible husband/partner/parent/child a flexible credit card any other helpful suggestions? nell |

A notebook with removeable pages and alphabetical dividers so that each person in the tree can be recorded on their own page. Very handy for taking to the records office. Lots of highlighter pens - to indicate in notebook possession or sight of certificates, census etc. Green for birth, pink for marriage, purple for death and yellow for census. Not really essential but make the pages look pretty! Sense of humour essential! Daisy |
