Many tenors sang this song, but the first one I heard was John McCormack.

My Uncle had this at my aunts funeral - a haunting flute version played by James Gallway. I think 'the original' was an instumental tune that someone put words to and has a name in its own right.Londonderry Aire Jess

Think the tune is Londonderry Air?

Hi Denise, My thoughts and sympathies to you and your family at this sad time. We had a couple of verses of Danny Boy sang at a relatives funeral a couple of years ago. It was so very very touching. My heart goes out to you during this time Elaine :-)

Many years ago (no comments please) when I was a young sailor and based in Londonderry I sang that song to a bar full of Irishmen and managed to raise a tear or two, but then I'm part Irish myself so it must have come over OK. As long as they enjoyed it thats all one can ask. ' CEAD MILE FAILTE' A hundred thousand welcomes. Len
