Hello all! Have any of you had any regrets since starting to trace your family tree??? I have, the fact, that if I ever get married I am going to need a function room that seats at least 1000! Also the fact that genealogy can take over your life!!!!! Please get in touch and let me know! Regards, Yvonne!

Hi Yvonne - The only regret was that I didn't start earlier! I did want to, but had a demanding, full-time job until a few years ago. Luckily all my family are interested, too, so I don't get any of the 'glazed' looks from them when I start enthusing!

I agree with Daisy - would have been much easier to have had the 'urge' when people were alive, and be able to ask the necessary questions then. As I get older my memory fails a little bit, and I now often have to ask myself 'Do I really remember Gran/Grandad/Aunty/Uncle etc saying that, or have I come to that conclusion during my long and often fruitless searches'. hey ho, such is life - onwards and upwards - keep searching! Good luck with all your searches. Jacqui

Same regret here too. I wish I had started when my grandparents were all still alive. They could maybe have cleared up some of the mysteries for me. Maggy

Yes, I agree with Daisy too. I wish, firstly that we as a family had never lost touch. AND, I wish I'd started when I was fit enough to run around doing my own searches. Deanna

I wish i'd started when i was 20, instead of 40, then my grandfather would still be alive, he was adopted in 1907 and trying to find who he is, is a nightmare.as it wasn't legal to 1927. Plus my other grandparents would be alive to ask all those intriging questions sandra

My only regret is that I didn't take more notice about where my dad kept a lot of photos and letters which mum and I now can't find. That and the fact that that a couple of people who would be very interested in what I have found out are now dead. Perhaps they know now! nell

I wish I'd kept hold of the very early notes I made when I totally discounted an entire family with the same surname as mine in Birmingham as coincidence. Now........grrrrrrrrrr, looks like they're all interlinked and I've got to go back and do it all again! Lou

I wish I had also started earlier but my nan died when I was 10 so I wished I had listen to the stories harder when I was little. She was my only Grandparent. Tammy

Yes, like everyone else not starting earlier. If I could I would ask my mother about her grandmother. but at least I have started and family history is being talked about in school. I had a text when I was on holiday to fill in some facts for my nephew (of the top of my head) hope he gets the bug as well and then I can leave him all my research. Ros

Yes I wish I'd started earlier, I was a couple of months off 40 when I started but all the people who could have helped were already dead. My nan is the only one left who could help me a fair bit but at 94 she is away with the fairies most of the time. I wouldn't be able to rely on anything.
