I started with an Allergy 8 years ago, couldnt stop sneezing etc every morning on and off all day. it got so bad that I was even vomiting sometimes cos there was too much mucus. Went the doctors and ive tried all kinds of tablets and nasal sprays I have Perennial Rhinitis and its all the year round the worst thing is the weather a change in the weather can cause me havoc and certain foods. Im going for tests now to find out actually what is causing it. Its like having the flu everyday 365 days a year and you dont know you have the flu until its full blown. Im on Neo Clariyton Tablets and Rhinitec spray and seems to be doing the trick most days. Estelle go back the doctors and insist that you want something stronger and tests done. I have sympathy with you, I know what your going through. Good luck Yvonne x |

when i moved to NZ I had a massive allergy to mozzie bites, so much so I ended up in A&E 4 times. All the antihistamines did nothing, so i ended up having to take steroids when i got bitten which was not nice. I had to carry them all the time in summer in case i got bitten on my face or neck. Luckily i seem to have become less sensitive as the years have passed, but it was damned scary. The first time, my arm swelled up so much I couldn't bend or straighten it, and when i got to the hospital, the nurse siad , oh thats broken! When i said no its a bite, i was whizzed through! |

There is relly only one thing to do if you can not get your GP to send you for a test. thats a prosses of elimanation. work out when it starts IE after meals , wasing up, bath ect , then using one item at a time, test spot your self (this could take some time) just dab a littlle (on say your forarm) of all the things that you uses at that time, if you react thats the one. |

Hi Estelle, I have allergies too. Just before Christmas my face puffed up because of my excema and I had to shop in sunglasses. It was on the palms of my hands for 4 years until a few weeks ago and suddenly cleared up, only to start travelling all up my arms legs and neck- never had it there before! I do everything in examination gloves to protect my hands- can't touch any products and use 'Simple' everything. Some apples bring on anaphylactic shocks so I daren't eat French or Golden Delicious...soy sauce gives me a 'trout pout'. I'm 47 and all this started about 18 years ago. Aileenx |

Estelle, i feel for you--I went through this about three years ago. I became allergic to absolutely everything--couldn't go out in the sun cos that set me off, and couldn't eat any foods without reacting. My GP was more sympathetic than yours, thank goodness, probably cos she saw it for herself. I swelled up in the night-- I could barely open my eyes, and was having breathing problems. I was prescribed mizollen which really helped. I still carry it with me just in case! I was referred to a dietician who put me on an incredibly strict diet (I can give it to you if you like. Email me if you think it might help you). I was told it was an allergy to aspirin--and aspirin, or its derivative, is in EVERYTHING! I had to cut out all fruit, most veg, all alcohol, plus caffeine and chocolate (!) for three long long weeks! It was hard--I lived on jacket potatoes and water! Lost a stone though--and it seemed to kickstart my system as the swelling disappeared and my sensitivities became much less sensitive! I slowly re-introduced the 'problem' foods. I was ok with most, apart from fruit which is a complete no-no for me now. From what I've read since, it can happen to anyone. Your body overloads with toxins and starts to react to everything. It can be triggered by stress--mine was and I become more sensitive still if I am stressed. Hope this helps. Email me if you want any more info. Hope you feel better soon! Sal |

Aspirin is salycylic (spelling?) acid isn't it? I notice that my daughter has a symmetrical flush pattern over her face and scalp when she eats any kind of fruit, or fruit yoghurt etc. Nothing else with it though. Try keeping a very detailed diary for yourself for a couple of weeks and then see if you can analyse any common patterns out of it. This will help you when you go back to the doctor as you won't be starting from scratch. Abigail |

Hi Abigail, Thanks! Was trying to remember the name of it but couldn't! Should know it as I'm allergic to it! I'm a nanny and, despite me telling my boss I'm allergic to peanuts, she let the two year old eat peanut butter out of the jar for breakfast! He then came to me for a cuddle covered in the stuff! I explained to her how dangerous it is and she said 'Oh yes of course--you'll get a rash!' I had to then explain anaphylaxis to her, and how I couldn't take very good care of her kids if I was lying unconscious on the floor unable to breathe! |
