The florists dept where I work do not make the money - it's the markets where that is made. On Valentine's Day the price of roses quadrupled, and that was all roses not just red ones. this week the price of flowers has doubled so of course the florists shops have to pass on the costs. Also, apparently with the very bad weather in the South the large containers from Holland have had difficulty getting the flowers to all other parts of the UK Best not to buy if you object to the price - get some a week or so later, and buy twice as many. Interflora make an absolute killing on their internet service. Similar bunches of flowers from lesser-known companies are usually ten pounds cheaper, and they all smell the same. |

jaqui what annoys me alittle bit is when you order flowers from interflora they charge you i think it's still £6.50 even when they deliver the flowers locally.i ordered my mum flowers and they had the cheek to wack £6.5o even though the florist where they were done were only a few hundred yards away.i think it is daylight robberyxxxxxx(: |

Yeah it is - daylight robbery sure enough. I would not buy any flowers at this time of the year - if you only knew how cheaply the flowers are sold at a 'normal' time of year from the markets you would cry. Where I work we have to provide tributes all year around at a set book price, it cannot vary - so you can imagine that it's a hell of a job trying to recoup the costs around Valentines Day and Mother's Day. Plus of course, the large supermarket chains and garage chains all buy up what they can with deals from Holland, and that leaves the little shops out on a limb. Jacqui |

my newspaper did a feature on interflora recently and as part of this they sent us a bunch of flowers to photograph It was a major story for them and ran the day before valentines so you'd think they'd pull all the stops out so they'd get goo dpublicity and make sure they were sending the best bunch of teh best quality flowers. when teh flowers arrived in their cellophane wrapping they did look lovely but the first thing the delivery driver did was drop them on teh floor so all the water came out. once photographed I took them home and by the next morning half of them were dead or had gone brown. now I'd never use interflora cos if thats them trying to impress then what chance does a normal customer stand |

i can understand.maybe they should bring in a law which says that the suppliers cannot reap the money on special occasions.there again florists sometimes have to open late and on sundays so it can be justified therexxxxx(: |

Would that work? and if it did, then all those shops etc who make a mint out of Christmas, Cadbury's who make a mint out of Easter, Walls who make a mint out of ice creams (joke there somewhere) should they be penalised? I think that florists are no worse people than a lot of others, and generally flowers are the cheapest things that can be bought, and the loveliest. Any probs with Interflora - complain - you would if you bought some shoes and they fell to pieces. Jacqui |

I went into Interflora yesterday to order a bunch of flowers for my sis in law, from her hubby who works offshore!! £22.50 was the cheapest! £5.50 delivery plus an extra £9.50 for them to be delivered on Mothers Day!! = £37.50!!!! Said no thanks and went to market, they are delivering £18 worth of flowers with £2 delivery charge!! = £20 which is what he had given me for flowers for wifey!! Karen |

Lisa No, florists don't make a mint on any of the busy periods because as Jacqui says it's the growers who hike up the prices and the florists have to pay more from the markets. Little Karen - you're mistaken aboutt he Interflora charges - there is a set charge of 4.95 which includes delivery unless you request a specific time - if the florist was charging you 9.50 for delivery that was nothing to do with Interflora but the individual florist. Flowers can always be bought cheaper than in small town or village florists but it's the same with every small shop - they can't afford to compete with supermarkets or large chains - although the quality of the flowers is usually much higher David |

I like to send flowers to family and friends in the uk, if I use interflora costs over $120 (49 pounds) so I use flying flowers in the uk, a lot cheaper $36 (15 pounds) order on the internet or by phone great service, and at the last two christmas found a code in a magazine two christmas bouquets for 20 pounds ($48) all my family in the uk and friends here use them, flowers last for weeks from the feed back I have received have a branch here in Perth but still cheaper to go though the uk branch.
