KATIE AND INFLUX

Sandra Report 4 Mar 2005 06:25

My little grandaughter Katie was in hospital last month for a week with a bladder infection. She was very poorly. Yesterday she had to have a dye put through a catheter, and she has influx. Some of her urine returns back inside. She now has to have another test done, to see if it has damaged her kidneys and how far it returns. Then she may have to have an operation to move the tube from the kidney to a different place in the bladder to stop the reflux. It may be able to be treated with antibiotics, that she would have to be on for up to 6 years to see if she grows out of the problem. It depends on the results of the next tests as to whether an op or medication. Poor little thing shes only just turned a year old. Sandra

Hi Lou thankyou, i hate it when kids are ill, or need ops, i would rather go through it myself. I'm sure the hospital will sort her out, and its been detected really quickly, before too much damage is done sandra

Poor Katie! I had something called a PUJ obstruction where the the bit of the tube that leads out of the kidney (ureter) was wafting the urine back into my kidney instead of down to the bladder. I CANNOT DESCRIBE THE PAIN THAT I WAS IN! It was worse than either of my labours and one of those ended up in obstruction and a GA and emergency caesarean after 26 hours. I had to have a pyeloplasty in the end which was supposed to sort it out once and for all but even so, my body is so contrary that I still have certain problems! I hope that is better and comfortable soon and that they manage to find a (hopefully conservative) solution to her problems. Abigail

Oh bless her.... this is so so painful as I know.... but they can provide a very simple solution of widening the tube to the bladder and it's an instant cure.... I'm pleased to say!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for her!! Give her a big hug from me!! Pink xx
