Jeanette Count back from the date of death the number of years old he was when he died. It should give you a year to focus on for his birth Look for that year (and a couple of years either side) to find his birth entry Elaine x |

Jeanette are there any other members of your family or of his generation you can ask for info about ehere he came from.Is the surname distinctive. If so there will not be too many registered on the records.I look up Swaffield and there are only ever about five entries in any one quater. You may need to just give it a whirl.Always record EVERY entry for the name you are searching even if you don't think your family was so far afield.I have discovered that mine have dispresed allover the country and abroad. Good Luck. Who witnessed his death-name should be on Cert.DOES THIS HELP. |

Jeanette Hi, Get your g-fathers birth cert. Join 18370nline, you should be able to trace him on there.Record the quarter in which he was born eg Jan-Mar the Vol and page number, Yuo can then order the Cert on site .When his Cer arrives you can find out who his father is.This should give you a jumping off point .If you need to go back before records began in 1837 ,then you will need to used Parish Registers. These are available at Record Offices all aroungd the country as well at the PRO. yOUR LOCAL LIBRARY will probably have a research centre up stairs in the Ref Section. Also ask if there is a Family History Society in your area-you will find lots of people willing to help you-Good Luck Rose |

You could really do wth his date of birth, or at least some idea of the year he was born and where so that you can search for it. Ann Glos |
