Everywhere I look I see genealogy this, that and the other. You have to wait weeks to get a cert now from the GRO when it used to be about 7 days, there are programmes on the box now that I've seen and I've read a lot of comments about here. It seems that everyone you talk to is tracing their tree, has traced it, has a relative that's doing it or knows friends who are doing the same thing. It's going to overtake gardening soon!! LOL Brenda |

I think i agree, I called as local office about a cert, and started with the comment, i'm tracing for my family tree. And she said so is the whole world and it's mother!!!!!!!! |

Just googled and apparently the most popular pastime in England isn't genealogy or gardening but... fishing! |

Nell - I feel like I'm fishing the whole time when I'm looking for rellies! Take boards like this.... you put out the bait and wait patiently for a bite! lol Brenda |

It certainly is Jen and I've had lots of those old boots too Daisy. It's still fascinating, even though my twigs are still stuck at about 300 when other people have got thousands. I'll get there when my lot stop playing hide and seek with me. But!! what will I do then. LOL. Jan |

I guess I will add my 2 cents here... I think eventually this will die down. At $15 a pop for a certificate, I pick and choose which ones I absolutely have to have, the rest I'll just copy off a microfilm from the Mormon's. Right now this seems to be a novelty among those who aren't dyed in the wool family researchers and my guess is unless you are a determined detective most will give up eventually. Gord |
