Shelli, Sounds like you all had a good day. Have never done the Tower Bridge experience (made a note on my things to do list). Mind you if the lifts not working forget it. Can't even make one flight these days. No wonder your kids are so thoughtful. They take after their Mum. Jean x. |

Shelli My children ADORED the London Dungeon and were quite puzzled when a small boy was screaming and mother trying to console him. My elder boy volunteered for the torture demonstration. Says a lot for the way I've brung them up! I think I was much more sensitive. I remember queuing for years to go to Madame Tussauds and I was horrified by a tableau representing Lady Jane Grey about to have her head cut off. I had to hang about while my mother took my brother off to the Chamber of Horrors. Perhaps its a girl thing. nell |

Hi luv - glad you had a lovely day! We did Tower Bridge last year - luckily the lift was working or my mum wouldn't have made it! Dunno how you manage - its bad enough with 2 let alone 4! Dunno if your lot would be interested, but there is The Museum in Docklands or Greenwich - Maritime Museum. Of course the Tower itself is good too. We hope to go to Greenwich later this year. Also, have heard that Tutenkhamun (sp?) is coming back to London - I have to admit I saw it first time round and all I remember is queueing! That will be a 'must see' for us! Maz. XX |

Liz yo may be right, but i will prob wait til they all a bit older as I said i believe in getting value for my money LOL and i bet the kids tickets aren't any cheaper if they don't visit the chamber ??? You're right it is expensive, but every so often Asda do a BOGOF deal so i would take advantage of that. Must admit thats the reason we've not done the Eye, the costs for us lot would be too much. Even the zoo costs us an arm and a leg these days |

Hi Shelli, I am sure that when we went to Madame Tussauds, under-12s were not allowed into the chamber anyway, but there were plenty of pop and film stars for them to be photographed with - it depends if you think it is worth it as it is quite pricey. Liz x |

Thnaks everyone for the nice comments.. I guess it's just reassuring to knwo that for all my faults and their, my kids aren't THAT bad, so something somewhere is going right LOL Liz I have BOGOF tickets for the dungeons, but I think my lot would be like BJ, Ben is 6 and the twins 9 I even think the eldest at 12 wouldn't enjoy it. I haven't taken them to Madame Tussards cos they won't enjoy the chamber, and i refuse to not do it all. I believe n getting my moneys worth LOL Keep hinting at the old man that i'd like to go to the dungeons, with these vouchers, but he WON'T take the hint |

Shelli, We took our kids to the London Dungeon in 2003 - BJ was 8 but she was so scared and cried all the way through. You have to stay with the crowd and move slowly through the rooms as they are all set pieces with actors following scripts etc and poor BJ was beside herself. I had to carry her through most of it. The London Eye, Tower Bridge and the boat trip were far more successful. We went to York Minster last summer and I foolishly agreed to climb to the top - 270 steps I think, round and round a stone turrett in procession with no chance to stop as there are people behind you. I emerged from the top on my hands and knees, literally, and sat gasping for breath slumped in a heap for several minutes. The view was spectacular but, golly, never again! Liz x |

Nell the kids wantede to do a boat trip yesterday, but finances wouldn't allow it and it was 4pm!!! Have promised that trip for easter, maybe sooner if we get the chance...maybe Dad wil come if it's a weekend !!! We did HMS belfast last October, kids loved it. Aquarium was done a few years ago, wasn't impressed with that, as we didn't realise there was no food n there, and the kids of course were starving. So they rushed round. Did consider the Dungeons yesterday, but felt at 6 the youngest was too young. ALso the queue was MILES long, we went past on way from London Bridge ttrain station to Towere bridge!!!! We've not done St Pauls yet, as i feel my lot would just scream and ruin the atomosphere!!!! We've done all the museums etc But if anyone has anymore ideas I'll glady note them for other school holiday |

Oh how I miss school holidays, now my children have grown-up, all the places we visited, all the things we did. I would't have been and done those things on my own. Now my grandaughter is 4 I can start all over again, great. Jennifer. |

Shelli I know where you are coming from! Last summer I took my kids to St Paul's. I was going to show them the interesting historical/architectural bits etc, but they wanted to go right to the top. I don't know how many steps there are right up to the gold balcony, but its a lot more than 311 - yes I have done the Monument - and although the turning circle isn't as severe, the stone steps to start with have just the wrong gap between steps (not high enough) and my calf muscles were already aching when we got to the Whispering Gallery. Then we had to go up some metal 'fire-escape' type stairs which did make me feel a bit queasy, but my sons encouraged me and we made it. Lovely view at the top, but then we had to go down again... I asked them the other day about the first time I'd taken both of them without their dad to London and we'd seen the mummies in the British Museum, watched the London Eye being built and did the Aquarium. The bit they remembered best - having icecream. Another trip we did the London Dungeon and HMS Belfast as well as a london bus/boat tour. What did they remember of that - on the way home a drunken man was sick on the train! So never think that your efforts are wasted! nell who has done nothing with the kids this holiday. Eldest one has spent most of the time in bed now that he is an official teenager and the younger one is desperately trying to get some more pocket money so he's been unloading the dishwasher and putting all the clothes away!! |
