I guess its possible, depends how bad the break is. I damaged my foot a few years ago, I'm convinced I broke it. Also, when I broke my wrist, it was a week before I got it checked out, so you neve rknow |

Yes you can. Especially a child who's bones are still soft, might be better to get it checked. Christine |

My mum broke her foot years ago. They couldn't do anything because of where it was broken. She ended up wearing slippers and walking on it. |

Yes you can. I reversed over my son (Don't ask!! It still traumatises me to think about it, though he thinks it was hilarious!!) He was 12 at the time and the xray didn't pick up a break. He went to school all week and when his foot was still sore at the end of the week, I took him back to casualty. They re-xrayed and there was the break. He had to have it potted!! Sue xx |

If it's still bad tomorrow take her to casualty. And don't feel guilty if it's broken. Sometimes it's hard to tell with kids (especially if they are drama kings or queens). When something's first broken it can feel quite numb due to endorphins. If she's in pain tonight then please give her some painkillers. |

But he said it hurt and just sat next to me for next hour, wouldn't play etc. But he could move it, scratch his head etc I ignored him for 6 hours in total. As he was still not using arm properly i took him to A & E it was Fractured!!!! i'd get it checked I'd rather be safe than sorry |

Emma, when my younger son was 4 years old he had trouble breathing. We brought him to the doctor, the doctor said he was just having an asthma attack (and gave us additional medication). Several hours later we called the doctor again; we were told to bring him immediately to the hospital. Turns out he did have an asthma attack -- and double pnemonia. Parents and doctors aren't always correct. Hope your daughter is feeling better soon. Hugs, Lisa |

My neighbour's daughter a couple of years ago (age about 12 then). Her dad took her to Spain on holiday and she fell off a wall a few days before the holiday ended. When she got back home her mum took her to the hospital and yes, her leg was broken! |

Yes you can, I know someone who walked on a broken foot for weeks without knowing it was broken, they thought it was just a bad sprain. Best to take her to A&E tomorrow and get it checked out it might just be a bad sprain and need a bandage for a few days but at least your mind will be put at rest. Hope you dont have a bad night - good luck. |

Emma, if I've read this correctly, within 30 minutes you've had quite a number of people telling you that you can break a foot and not know it. Please don't feel guilty about her foot. At least you're asking about it now and you'll probably get it checked out as soon as you can. It could be worse -- how would you feel if her dad had it checked out and not you? Sending you and your daughter tons of hugs. :~) Hope things work out. (I've reread my message and it sounds 'bossy'. Don't mean it that way -- was just trying to say that others have been in the same position as you and they didn't know either -- including me!) |

Hi Emma, Yes, it is possible. When I was 10 I broke my ankle clean through in two places, and it swelled up like a balloon. My GP said it was a bad sprain and a week later he called at our house and tried to make me walk on it! It was agony by that time and my mum insisted he send me for an xray. I was in plaster for weeks. I'd take her along to her GP or to A & E, to be on the safe side. Also, last summer, I was (perhaps stupidly at 47) playing a skipping game with my two grand-daughters. Over the next few weeks my foot began to hurt like hell if I walked too far, but my doctor put it down to me wearing ill fitting trainers and advised me to get a pair of Nike airs, which I did. Turned out that I had a stress fracture of the heelbone, but apparently xrays don't always show a break in smaller bones, like in the feet, until enough new bone tissue has forme for the xray to pick up, which might be more than three weeks later. In my case, I was advised to just rest my foot as much as possible, but to keep active and eventually it would heal up on it's own. I still have problems though if I'm on my feet too long at a time. I've given up the skipping now! Carole |
