I have a really dry scalp, started in last few weeks since daughter got head lice at school, and the paranoid person I am, i've been washing and combing every day, I havent got the lice thank god, just a really itchy head. I've stopped washing every day, itches too much now when it gets wet, and at times i've made it bleed with the scratching, I wash my hair with tea tree shampoo and conditioner, anything else seems to give me a burning sensation, Any advice anyone? |

i've heard a few drops of lavender oil in your conditioner is a big help for avoiding head lice but as for the dry flakey scalp have you tried t-gel shampoo - supposed to work well |

Tammie, leave it alone. You have hurt your scalp with all the combing. It will get better and you could use baby shampoo just now. Deanna |

Hi Tammie Try 'Polytar' shampoo. I use it all the time because I have psorasis. It's less expensive than most and works really well. Sheila |

Hi, try using coconut oil and leave overnight, or you can get Capasal shampoo on prescription from the Doc! |

I think you have been over zealous with your hygiene over the head lice worry.Your scalp may now be very sensitive to most chemicals. Don't add any more to it for a few days.Try hard not to scratch and even wear cotton gloves at night if you are scratching in your sleep. The scalp needs time to relubricate itself and achieve balance. Once you have left it to settle and quieten down Then use the recommeded brands for flakey scalp. DID YOU HAVE A FLAKEY SCALP PROBLEM BEFORE the nit worry. If not then you have created this condition by over cleaning your hair and scalp. Give it a rest. Good Luck It must be sore-Hope it improves soon. Rose |

I've used T-Gel and tea tree and when neither worked, resorted to head and shoulders for itchy scalp. Magic! All gone, no dandruff or itchiness. My mum has same condition but uses T-gel to no avail. Fiona. |

Hi Tammie, my daughter has eczema and i use Polytar which really helps. personally i wouldn't use head and shoulders or a baby shampoo they are often harsher.the more a shampoo lathers the harsher it is.washing your hair every day won't harm it either. Karen |

You poor thing, it must be driving you crazy. Maybe you have overdone the cleansing or maybe you have had a bad reaction to the things you have used. My mum is a school nurse and recommends that, as lice are becoming more resistant to the chemicals used to kill them, doing the old fashioned thing. Condition your hair nightly and comb through with the fine comb. The lice slide off because they have no grip. Burn the results. Do this every night for fourteen days to complete the whole potential life cycle. Your hair will be beautiful besides being lice free and you won't have absorbed any revolting chemicals or given lots of money to the pharmaceutical companies! Good luck Abigail |

Again thanks everyone, even more suggestions to try, It wasn't flakey before I gave it the nightly nit treatment, which I'm sure has caused it, I was washing every night then using a leave in conditioner (and combing it through) which I think was the cause, Trouble is I've got quite long thick hair that needs to be washed and conditioned every other day which isnt helping, I'm not sure what itches most, when its just been washed or when it needs washing, I couldnt get to Boots today so I thought about rubbing loads of moisturiser into my head, LOL, but I thought it'd just make me even itchier! Thanks Again Tammie |
