A couple of years ago we attempted to arrange a remortgage through a local estate agent. However, the company failed to tell us that we needed to produce certain documents necessary for the application after we committed ourselves and paying £245 for a valuation fee. The consultant dealing with our case was fully aware that we were not going to able to produce the documents before the agreement was signed. As a result we lost our valuation fee and interest. The company claims that they were not liable. After months of letter writing they have offered us a refund and a small compensation amount. My advice for anybody arranging a mortgage etc is to get in writing, to the last smallest detail everything that is essential for the success of the application before commitment, and if anything goes wrong, write to the most senior person in the company you can find and be persistant!
