I'm sure it is nothing to worry about Pet,but you are doing the right thing having him checked out.I know what you mean about being so special,our little grandson came along after my -D-I-L had had 5 miscarriages and after losing a little girl at five months.Thomas took ten years to arrive safely and he is so precious I panic everytime he coughs, I will be thinking of you-Hugs Rose

Hi Emma, My 11-yr-old CJ has had a raised gland in his neck all his life. The doctor, when he was a baby, told me to keep an eye on it and bring him back if it got bigger. Occasionally it does get bigger, it has also grown with him, but I have given up taking him to the doctor's because they always say 'just keep an eye on it', so I do that anyway. As I said, he is 11 now and disgustingly healthy. Liz xx

Emma, Try not worry. My 5 year grandson often has one come up in his neck. We notice it more when he is tired. The doctor said it is a gland and not to worry. Jean x.

I agree I think its a lynph gland. But you are right to take him to the doctors to make sure...and to give yourself a good nights sleep (Im the same ! ) A while ago I had a lump near my ear. It turns out Id had a spot in the vicinity & the lymph gland was reacting to that ! Let us know how you get on. Elaine x

I will keep you all posted, just hope i get a good doctor. If you need a doc in the morning you have to sit and wait. you then get which ever doctor is least busy. There are a few doctors that are rubbish, one of them wont even get off his chair! I will probably end up shouting!

It sounds like an inflamed gland to me. They can often become a little swollen due to small infection in the ear, skin etc. You are doing the right thing by taking your little boy to the doctors tomorrow. My son had a pea-like gland in his groin for 3 weeks when he was a baby and the doctor insisted on seeing him each week until it went away which put my mind at ease. I'm sure everything will be fine- let us know the outcome please. Aileenx

I know its probably all ok, but if he so much as sneezes i worry, he was nearly not here so i tend to wrap him in cotton wool! Poor thing cant go anywhere without me chasing after him!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Emma, that last sentence of yours 'I'm sure its nothing to worry about, but I'm worried anyway' could be any mother talking. That's what motherhood brings - the three Ws - work, worry and washing. Hope the trip to the doc's will reassure you. nell

If its in the side of the neck its probably raised glands which means he's fighting an infection. Children's glands come up much quicker and more dramatically than adults, but its best to get it checked out. nell

Hi emma one of my children had this when they were little, i was worried sick but the doctor said it wasnt nothing to worry about as it was a gland, but you are doing the best thing, its best to get it checked out, hope all goes well, let us know how you get on.... best wishes kimx

On the side of his neck, about 2 inches bellow his ear.

Hi Emma It could be anything but when I was that age, (a loong time ago!!) I had an abcess on my neck, just below my left ear. I had to stay in hospital for a week or so and have it drained/cut out or whatever they did. I just have a tiny scar now. Probably best to get it checked out just to be on the safe side but its probably nothing too serious. Sam

Does anyone know what a lump in my 2 year olds neck could be? Am taking him to docs in morning but wonderd if anyone has any ideas? Its about the size of a marble, he is well in himself. Am sure its nothing to worry about but i am worried anyway.
