We had a most enjoyable Friday evening. We stayed over night on Friday in the pub where I was born sixty years ago.Well sixty-five years ago if I am honest. We went down to the bar for a drink and had a great evening as The Knockdown Blue Grass Band were preforming as they do every Friday there. It was a really happy evening.Everyone joined in the singing at the Crown Inn TETBURY and if you live in the area it is a great night out. If you enjoyed the film 'Brother Where art Thou' with George Cluny, and the Foggy Bottom Boys, then you will love the Knochdown Bluegrass--ENJOY-Rose |

Oh Yes Joyce! Are you close enough to get to Tetbury ? Even my husband who is a great Opera Buff had a great night. There is something about the atmosphere of a live performance. It beats TV for an evening's entertainment. Did you see the film- I think you would like it -Rose |

Joyce and Rose, Last Train to San Fernando by Johnny Duncan & The Blue Grass Boys was the first Record I ever bought. Must have been about 1954 or 5. Went to my mate Nobby Collett's home in Cottage Lane, Bromley Common and we played it so often on his Dansette that we wore it out. |

Kentucky is known as the Blue Grass State, isn't it? Timothy is the variety of grass. So does Blue Grass music come from Kentucky? Ros |

Who cares Rupert, let 'em talk! What was so amazing about Friday was the sheer joy .Everyone was having a great time.I am really NOT prepared to sit at home of an evening anymore .I am driving to Tetbury on Friday nights and staying over in the Crown. Has anyone seen 'Brother Where art Thou '' NO ONE SAID IF THEY HAD. YES, I think Blue Grass comes from Kentucky Jim I know all about wearing out records!! We had a great place in Bath Called Duck,Son and Pinkers. They specialised in Pianos, but anyone who knew the shop well knew that it went back for miles and the further back you went the more music you could appreciate. It had rows and rows of records and record booths. We used to spend hours in there on a Saturday--Oh Happy Days--rose |

Hi , Rose , I live in the NE so not too close to Tetbury .... How many parties did you go to in the 50s and not one 78 record got smashed ??? None , I'll bet . I remember giving the needle a little turn after 6 plays so I could make it last longer ..... The younger members won't know what the h*** I'm talking about !!! Joyce |

Our Music Centre was a laugh by todays standards. It was huge! It took up a whole alcove in the sitting room and the needles were thick. When they were past their best my step-Dad used them to bang into the walls to hang pictures on.!! Yes I bounced on the 'Jersey Bounce' and a few more besides. Our parents used to go to Dicken's Society on Mondays and Gilbert & Sullivan Society on Thursdays. Guess which nights our house was the meeting place for the youth of the village. Friends have gone out the front windows as Mum and Dad came down the Back path.A near thing on many a night.I can tell you.By the time they came in through the back door we kids were demurely reading Rudyard Kipling Lol Rose |

Hi Rose. Yes, I saw that great George Clooney movie and I have the soundtrack which I regularly dance to in my kitchen whilst washing up. I am also mad about Cajun music (If you have'nt danced to 'Dont mess with My Tutu' you haven't lived). My dog thinks I am a bit peculiar, I stamp my feet and holler, especially when I am happy which is most of the time. It's great to be old! |

Last Train to San Fernando got to No2 in 1957. There was also Blue Blue Heartaches (which I don't remember) and Footprints in the Snow (which I do remember). |
