Whenever you go to research offices, does any of you have all your genealogy info you have found out so far stored in your head and do not need one bit of paper or do you need it all written down beforehand as I seem to remember everything. Ben |

Hi, When I first started I could carry it around in my head but 5 years later I have to take brief details of the families I'm researching in case I see something unexpected. I always write down what I hope to find in case I get distracted. Gwynne |

I'm casting the net quite wide trawling for information so I couldn't possibly remember all that I need to look up as there are many surnames. I am likely to do GRO searches, census lookups and go hunting through many varied parish records all in one visit as I confirm information, which seems likely. I find it much quicker to have a clear written idea of what I am hoping to find, although some will come readily to mind. |

I can't remember in the afternoon what I looked up in the morning! Not only do I need a list of look ups for the day itself, it's helpful to see how my mind was working when I go back over my notes in six months time. For me, visits to records offices are like examinations. If I put a huge amount of planning into it, I get results. If I rely on the little grey cells, as I did this afternoon when I popped into the Local Studies Library for an hour, it is an unmitigated disaster. |
