Hi Stephanie I transcribe for FreeCen. It all seems a bit daunting at first but you soon get the hang of it. If you go to the FreeCen homepage and click on Transcriptions on the left, it tells you all about it and gives a list of county co-ordinators to contact. Also I believe you have LancashireBMD and CheshireBMD sites for your area. I also transcribe for YorkshireBMD and this is sooooooo easy - no programs to download. Just contact your local register office and ask if they want volunteer transcribers. Good Luck! Jeanette x |

Perhaps you could transcribe for FreeCEN. I think you can choose the county you want to transcribe, but you'd have to ask someone else because I'm not a transcriber. Lucia :-) |

I live in Manchester - and most of my family tree seem to be from Salford, High Peak, Keighley & Enniscorthy in Wexford. Ill have a look down the Local Family History route - but would be interested to hear other suggestions! |

Steph, where are you researching. I have transcribed for Hampshire Gen Soc. and Dorset OPC, both always looking for volunteers, or they were last year. If you belong to a Family history Society try them first. Ann glos |

As Ive been doing my family history, ive been very grateful to all the volunteers that have actually sat and put the information in to computer format - especially the Census information - and Ive been thinking about volunteering to do some myself, but everyone wants volunteers - Genealogy, FreeBMD etc - who would be the best one to volunteer with, in your opinion and why? Thanks! Steph |
