I'm planning on going travelling in Jan 2006. I've been looking at round the world tickets on STA travel, they say you can create your own, but you can't!! LOL. I want to go to China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Bali, onto Australia etc. But it won't let me pick these choices together. Has anyone on here been on a gap year/rtw trip? If so, where did you book it? Any recommendations?

My daughter did it when she was 28. She booked with travelbag and found them very good. She went to Singapore. Hong Kondg. In Hong Kong she picked up a travelbag tour for 3 weeks which took her across China from Hong Kong to Bejing. She then flew to Australia went To Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourn and Tasmania. From Melbourne she flew to Fiji then on to New Zealand. From New Zealand to Los Angeles then to Peru. Again she picked up another travelbag tour and did the iInca trail. Then to Las Vegas Chicago and homehaving had a wonderful time. Win

Thanks Winifred. I will look into TravelBag. Your daughter did everything that I want to do, apart from I want to go to China! Chloe

Chloe Claire spent 3 weeks in China and loved it. She saw the Sugar loaf mountains, the panda reserve. the Great Budda, went down the Yangste, Xian , the great wall and Bejing. In fact she was supposed to go to Bankok and Phi Phi Island on the 27th December, she changed her flight and went to Dubai, Shanghai and Bejing instead. Win

you can do it - but you will have to go through a travel company - what they do is find a ticket that covers the majority of what you want to do - then anything else is added on seperately - but because you are booking it through a company it all gets lumped together as one package (iyswim) e.g - if you want to go to kuala lumpur , australia , & china they would choose malaysian airlines - but malaysian dont fly to china so they would add on a flight from austalia to china - then from china to uk so in theory you are doing lots of one waytrips - but because its with the same travel company i.e kuoni , travelbag etc - you can do it the one that did the most round the world stop offs is garuda indonesia there are some places where you can 'tailor make' your flights but not really looked into it oneline - best to phone someone as its a nightmere to do - you might as well get someone top do it for you hth sam
