Did anyone see that item about 'Cracker' this morning? He is 6ft 6inches (don't know what that is in 'hands') and a 'gentle giant' according to his stable owners....aaaah Dilys (6ft 2inches) |

Yes I saw it this morning, and they had that tiny horse with him. Bev |

That is very tall. 'Party Politics' who won the Grand National in 1992 was about 18 hands and he was considered a giant of a horse. |

This horse is at the shire centre about 3 miles from where i live. It has nostrils about the size of a pint mug, but it is so gentle. |

This is a bit more interesting than the Royal Engagement, in my book! Dilys |

Yes, I saw him in the paper yesterday. What a whopper! Quite scary really, to think of him charging towards you in full armour in a battle! We went to a heavy horse stable on a day trip some years back, and I was amazed at the size of those towering over me, but Cracker would dwarf them. He's a magnificent beastie. CB >|< |

last year i rode a 17.2 hands high irish cross, i needed a step ladder to mount, i am only 5 ft 2 inch high. i thought then that he was big, and a bet they dont come any bigger, but 19 hands wow! how ever do they manage, grooming and plating his mane, i bet ladders are needed |

Cracker is beautiful. They used to have a huge horse there called Goliath, known affectionately as Golly. Really gentle. I used to live near Spilsby and I took my little boy to the centre where they can groom the horses and ponies. He still talks about Doubles the baby cow which was in fact Douglas the Shetland Pony. He's gorgeous - a real handsome hunk, as well as a gentle giant. |

Thank you all for the interesting info on horses, I used to ride in my teens and have retained an affection for them. 'Black Beauty' was one of my favourite films! Dilys |
