I have waited in all morning for a builder to call and give me a quote for some alterations. I even had to let BJ walk to school on her own to make sure I was in between 9 and 1. Out of 6 builders I have had recommended to me, he is the only one who rang me back to make this appointment. Did he come? No he did not. What does it take to get a decent builder? Liz |

That sounds like here we can't seem to get any one that wants to do any jobs, they all seem to be too laid back for work. :))) Bev |

I want a door knocking through from the hall to the garage - perhaps I should buy a sledgehammer and do it myself? Liz x |

I just rang them, the bloke said he'd check and get back to me, but he didn't ask for my number so I'm not holding out much hope... Liz |

We are so lucky on the Island as everyone knows everyone else and if you want a skilled craftsman we can all recommend who did what for us-In the nicest possible way. It also means that in such a small community they cannot be sloppy workmen as they would never work again. Most of all-You don't get Call Out Fees, before they have done any work. A small community is great as if anyone tries anything on Like sucking their teeth and trying to blag you, You say ''Jerry or who ever,You always were a little xyzzz '' and they laugh and say' Never could fool you Miss' and get on with it.-Rose |

I am afraid that the only way to get a decent builder is by personal recommendation. Any recent building work you've noticed in your area? If so, knock and ask who did it and their opinion! |

Brian, I was recommended 6 builders, of which this one was the only one who could be bothered to make an appointment. I am now totally speechless as they have just phoned me to say they are not interested in doing any work for me as they are too busy for the next 8 weeks. I said I would be prepared to wait 8 weeks, and she said they were still not interested. Yes, THEY are not interested in doing work for ME after keeping me waiting around all morning. I simply cannot believe it. Liz |

Hi Maz, I'm in Newcastle-under-Lyme, North Staffordshire, so anybody Stoke based would be great, HOWEVER... Hubby has just phoned to say his mate (who is having major work done) has asked his builder to take a look and he has agreed! I will keep you posted... Liz (loojay) |
