What Is A Grandmother? (allegedly written by 8-year-olds). A grandmother is a lady who has no little children of her own. She likes other people's. A grandfather is a man grandmother. Grandmothers don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us. When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They show us and talk to us about the colour of the flowers and also Why we shouldn't step on "cracks." They don't say, "Hurry up." Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes. They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out. Grandmothers don't have to be smart. They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?" When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us. They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

If my 15yr old g.son is anything to go by - she should keep the biscuit tin and cake tin full, always have a supply of sausage rolls handy, fridge, freezer and larder should also be well stocked (all of these he checks within about 10 minuties of arrival) and have plenty of M & M's, coca cola and salt and vinegar crisps for the odd hunger pang! On arrival give grandma a big hug and one on leaving and say 'love you grandma thank you for having me' and she is putty in your hands in spite of her saying on your arrival 'My God are you back again'? This is a grandmother - I heard it from an American talking about different personality types. His youngest daughter had gone to stay with her gran (his mom) for a while. They went shopping and the daughter begged for a watch. Gran explained that it was a cheap watch and would break and wasn't worth bothering with, but the girl persisted and so Gran gave in and bought the watch. The next day the watch broke and the girl cried. Gran, seizing the opportunity to teach a lesson, said that she had told the girl the watch would break and that she should have listened to her Gran. The girl said "Listen to you! I'm only a little girl - you bought the watch that's why we're in this mess!" nell
