If I remember, I will. It's not until April 23 at N'castle City Hall.

Yeah Brian, and that was interesting about Brian May and your friend. I hope they turn out to be even half as good as they were in their golden days. Love to know how you get on, post a review hey? Pat x

Pat, you're right - Also, I think I'm right in saying that they are, first and foremost, session musicians who occasionally record and tour themselves.

Jacky didn't mention a lot of their hits Melting Pot from 1971 was always a fave as "hip hug her" "Groovin" from 1967. All the ones Camberwell Beauty mentioned. Then there is all the session work they did at Stax, they were the musicians behind the biggest hits from that label. Pat x

Thanks for that Pat, very interesting. I'll check out the web-site. I remember a friend of mine buying Green Onions when it first came out, about '64ish. At the time we were all into the "group" scene, and this record was not the run of the mill stuff, it took a while to grow on me. As a matter of interest that friend went on to university in London and used to jam with Brian May (Queen), a long time before Queen I might add!

Hi Brian Don't know what booker T. is like live but I would say he would be still very good, I heard he was backing Neil Young not so long ago. The track you are talking about used for the Cricket theme is “Soul Limbo” from 1968. I would have been a much later fan, too young to remember "Green Onions" first time around, I would be 1968 “Time Is Tight” & “Hang Em High” time. By the way Al Jackson was killed at his home by an intruder in 1975, but I think there is still one or two of the original members still with Booker. Booker T Jones has a small website you could check out: http://www.bookert(.)com Hope you have a great time. Pat x

So do I, looking forward to seeing them live. I wonder if they have ever toured this country before.

Sure do remember them! Got 'The Best of Booker T & the MGs' LP on Atlantic (in Stereo - woohoo! Big Deal in those days of the average Dansette!) Tracks dating from 1964-67: Hip Hug Her Slim Jenkins' Place Green Onions Soul Dressing Jellybread Groovin' Mo' Onions Summertime Boot-leg Can't be Still Tic-Tac-Toe Red Beans & Rice Sleeve notes say they were the "first major purveyors of ... the 'Memphis Sound' "... Booker described the empathy that he has with the MGs (Steve Cropper, guitar; Al Jackson, drums; and Donald 'Duck' Dunn, bass) as just having to "look at each other" and working very hard to create a mood, concentrating on "letting people know how we feel when we're playing". Fantastic sound. Hope they're still as good today. CB >|<

I love Green Onions. Wasn't it re-released in the late 70's at the time of Quadrophenia etc? Lorrainex
