Haven't contributed to the boards for ages but I know someone on here will help. My son is taking us to Dublin in May for five days and has asked me to pick a hotel from the internet, there are so many to choose from and I would rather go on personal recommendation so can anyone recommend somewhere? It really depends on your budget, but Jury's Inn or Bewley's Hotel charge by the room. They are pretty good as they are centrally located. There are loads of Hotels in the City but they are very expensive, it's said that Ireland is one of the most expensive European Countries to visit or live in. If you don't mind staying just outside Dublin their are again plenty of choices at better rates. A whole heap of musicians I brought to Dublin stayed at: http://www(.) jurys-dublin-hotels(.)com/jurysinn_customshouse Don't forget to remove the brackets. I got a good rate there, a couple of years ago, its very central, just a short walk along the quay to O'Connell Street, which is most central area of Dublin. Good luck Pat x Maureen just thinking you can email me here if i can help anymore than this Pat x

Hi Maureen, I could recomend the Harding Hotel, l was there in 1999, reading from the leaflet l have it says .....'located within Dublin's 'left Bank' Temple Bar. This historic area with its narrow cobbled streets offers the visitor a variety of shops restaurants, pubs, galleries and theatres. Harding Hotel enjoys unequalled views of Christchurch Cathedral. Dublins oldest medieval street, Copper Alley, actually runs through the reception area. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities, television, hairdryer, direct dial telephone, tea/coffee making facilites, and most rooms can comfortably sleep up to 3 people... I had a lovely time. Hope that helps Anne

Can't recommend a hotel, as I stayed with a friend when I went in 1990, but it was lovely then. Do visit Bewley's Coffee House - they did have a lovely sign outside saying that although they didn't start serving until 8.00, their doors were open at 7.30 and you could go in and warm yourself. Can't imagine ever seeing that in London! And the Guinness is sublime. nell

Went last summer and stayed in a nice new hotel called Chief O'Neills (I think !). It's walking distance to Temple Bar etc, but far enough away to be quiet - its built adjoining the old Jamesons Distillery.

We stayed there last year. Cheap & cheerful place was the Glen Guesthouse on Lower Gardiner St. Near the centre too.

Oh Maureen, lucky you! We had planned to go this spring but had to cancel the trip. We were going to stay at a Jury`s Hotel. It looked very nice and seemed reasonable. Let us know how you get on. Frances

Hi, I went with my husband about 4 weeks ago and stayed in the Grafton Capitol rooms were lovely and excellent breakfast. You should definatley check out the 'Arlington' even if you dont stay there is you love Irish music and dancing the shows are brilliant and the foods was really good to, Also try jumping on a tour bus round the city, gives you a good chance to get your bearings and also the commentary was really funny. Have a brilliant time wish I was going again! Sheila.

Thank you all so much for your replies. Now I'm like a kid in a toy shop! Have looked at most of your recommendations and I'm spoilt for choice. Chief O'Neills looks a bit posh! I've wanted to visit Ireland for so long can't believe we're going at last ( must be the Irish ancestors calling) By the way Peter I'm just down the road from you in Hartlepool. Thank you all once again, I'll let you know where we decide to stay. Maureen
