i wouldn't say he was allergic to diy just can't be bothered, i usually end up doing it instead. get fed up of asking.i've been asking for 6 months for some shelves to be put up. i did it myself yesterday and if i say so myself i've done a bloody goos job of it, all he could say was they weren't straight!

There must be somewhere out there a husband who loves doing the jobs around the house - here in Italy have yet to find one - so its not just the British men it seeems ! Gillian

I don't have it any more, but there was a brilliant article I read once about men which explained why they never finish jobs around the house. It's all to do with not liking to see the end of anything. My husband does do things eventually but it always involves a lot of hassle and trips to B&Q and then he never puts anything away afterwards. Maddening! nell

Gwyneth, LOL. My other half's always doing something or other; unfortantely he moves on to another job before he finishes the previous properly. I tell him he should change his name to Arfer cos he only ever does 'arf a job'. Haha. Jan

I don't moan or nag but last year I asked about July time whether I could have an early Christmas present. Obviously he asked what that was and when I said I'd like the shed roof repaired so that I didn't have to keep the lawn mower in the greenhouse to keep it dry, I got the shed repaired within the week. Subtle... but it worked.
