Ann you send it on line, as an e-mail with attachment. When coordinator says ok, you upload it from a very easy special programme with a click of the mouse!! Val

Hi, I have been transcribing for FreeBMD for about three years (two of the original syndicate leaders have died since I started.) I do one file a week, with only two fingers and having to look for the keys first. I must say my speed has improved no end. It is a numbers based system, that is, the most popular names have a number - William is 9, Jane is J5 and Joseph is Jo9 etc. etc. It is so simple that my old brain works well with it. You should have a go, you've got nothing to lose - John.

I posted a thread on the Tips Board about transcribing and had such good feedback I have started transcribing for freebmd. Only been doing it for 2 weeks and finding it quite complicated at the moment as I am computer illiterate. Still going to keep on trying. Must say that the syndicate co-ordinator has been absolutely wonderful and made the instructions so simple even I could understand them. Jean x.

I also transcribe for Freebmd and really enjoy doing it, when I get the time. I found it a bit tricky at first, the computer side of things, not the typing, but think that it has improved my computer skills too now that I have got the hang of it! Maggy

I'm a transcriber for FreeBMD, (with a guilty conscience!) have got one waiting to be done since last October, not got round to it, will be going away in a couple of weeks for a month, so will be ages before I do. Got onto FreeBMD site and applied through there, started with a checkers role first, have put that job on hold ufn. Val

Hi Ann From the thingy I downloaded from FreeCen! Strictly the census asked only "Deaf. Dumb. Blind": Many enumerators also wrote such comments as "Imbecile" or "Cripple". We can record these options with abbreviation as necessary (enter the full wording in column Y). "Df&Dm", "Imbicil", "crippl" would be acceptable. So basically if they just wrote deaf in last column, you just writer deaf. If they expanded use an abbreviation and then give full explanation in column Y. I haven't had any feedback from a checker yet so I'm assuming mine hasn't been checked. I know they are terribly short of people to check what we have done. Jeanette x

Jeannette Not really hard at it but must discipline myself more, I'm doing part of Darlington,1861 Can I ask you a question ---I have come across --in the last column --(wether deaf and dumb or blind) ,do I enter that? Did you get any feed back from your checker at all? Ann
