Yesterday I asked why I was suddenly getting flashing ads and Bob kindly mentioned that Norton would block them. As we have Norton I went in to check and discovered it switched off. After switching it back on again I lost the flashing. HOWEVER, now comes the problem. Everytime I switch the computer on again the Norton security has switched itself off!! Can any kind person tell me why and how to cure it please? Chrissie |

Chrissie I have Norton Internet Security. I don’t know if it is the same as yours but this is what I had to do. Open Norton by double clicking on the icon. Select options at the top of the Norton window and click internet security. When the page comes up tick the box to start internet security at start up. Hope this helps. Marion |

I've just noticed today - no flashing ad on the left - just a coloured empty square! Hope it stays like that Pauline |

It sounds as if you may have clicked something that prevents Norton from starting up in your "start up" menu. To fix there are two ways: If the Norton icon is showing in the botton right hand corner in your icon tray place your mouse over the icon and RIGHT click. Options will appear.....one of them should be ENABLE AUTO PROTECT....click on it and then should take care of it. If there is no icon showing in your icon tray, enable it this way: 1. Click on START. 2. Click on RUN. 3. A box appears; type in the field: msconfig 4. A screen will appear with labeled tabs....click on STARTUP. 5. Scroll the list of programs showing and make sure the Norton has a check in front of it and click OK. An added FYI: If you have a lot of icons showing in your icon tray....programs like your scanner icon, real player, etc....it is in the START UP menu that you should click these programs off. Those type programs don't need to be running in the background when you start your PC up. It slows down your PC and it uses up system resources. DO be careful when unclicking things in the start up menu. If you're unsure of what a particular program is DON'T unclick it as you could be turning a operating system program off rendering your computer useless. Judy |
