Hi there, I grew up with an older brother with ADHD and it was a really difficult time for all the family. I'm now an undergraduate psychology student conducting my research project into ADHD, one of my aims is to find how siblings of children with ADHD are affected. I would like parents of children with ADHD to complete a short 5 minute questionnaire which i can send you in the post. If you would be willing to help me out I would be so grateful as I'm having a hard time finding willing participants. I realise that you're probably very busy but you would really be helping me out. PLease e-mail me and i can give you further details. ''This is a message I received last night what do you think should I do the questionare'' |

Hi Natalie Did you watch the Horizon programme on BBC2 last night. I missed it, so hope it will be repeated. My younger daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, but we do think it's more far reaching than that. But that was the only diagnosis they could come up. Makes you wonder if they use this sometimes when it may not be?? |

I never got to see it but I have 2 boys with ADHD I will tell you something I don't think it just starts when the kid goes to school as my eldest who is 18yrs old was throwing old fashioned heavy stools at me at the age of 1yr and 6mnths he even through his sisters bike across the room with such a force the bed came away from the wall. I also think some kids with ADHD have other problems to which they can not be bothered to check out. Natilie sent me this message last night from contact.org wanting me to fill in a questionare I don't know if it is worth it as they never listen to us mothers anyway |

It's true these children have unbelievable physical strength. Both of my fellas boys have ADHD - the eldest 14 lives with him - already he is more than a match for his dad - and if I recall he did say he has kicked a door to pieces when he was younger. I honestly believe they are very intelligent children, even tho they have learning difficulties - but it must be hard for them to harness their abilities - but strangely my fella's eldest is exceptionally good at art and loves it - he likes music too - perhaps this is the best way they can find to express themselves ?? |

I remember a psychologist telling me once (not about ADHD specifically, but about disturbed children) that they don't necessarily have superhuman strength, its just that ripping the washbasin off the bathroom wall isn't something that would occur to most children, nor would they be so cross that they would wish to do it. nell |

My grandson who is now 21 and at University doing an honours degree was diagnosed as having ADDHD and Aspergers when he arrived in NZ at the age of13. He was excluded from school in Uk as being uncontrolable. When they got to NZ he was properly diagnosed, takes medication and living a full independent life. Do not despair, there is hope at the end of the tunnel brenda |
