A SAFETY review will get underway at Liverpool's Albert Dock today following the death of a man who jumped into the water for a prank. British Waterways, which controls the water in the dock, and CB Richard Ellis, which manages the land, are launching a joint investigation in the wake of the tragedy. It comes a day after police named the 23-year-old victim as Benjamin Burgin from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Mr Burgin had been enjoying a night out in Liverpool with his 18-year-old girlfriend and two other friends. He drowned in the dock after jumping into the freezing water as a stunt, misjudging how cold and deep the water would be. A Merseyside police spokesman said: "The early indications are that the young man was showing off to his girlfriend, or playing a prank." I feel sorry for him and all, but you would expect him to know better. Would you jump in a dock as a joke? |

Hi Dan, If the young man had been drinking, it probably affected his judgement. Surely an adult would realise how deep the water is in a dock. CB >|< P S I'd just like to point out that the CB referred to in the thread is nothing to do with me! LoL I've not been to Liverpool since 1963. |

Children know better than to jump in the water! The only person I like to see in there is Fred the weatherman, but not some foolish drunk. |
