My dad hasn't changed his hair for his whole life! Honestly! There's just less of it now!! As for my mum, she had a perm for the 80s, 90s and start of the 00s.... and now she has a purdy! Oh dear God!!!!

CB, lol, it's been a couple of years since I last went so I can't remember how much it was exactly, but it was at least £20, though not as much £30, I don't think. They've probably raised the price since. Ah, St Albans; a place I know well as that was where my graduation ceremony was held.

1981 Used to have a girls skinhead, with fringe at front and at neck. 1982-3 Then when I was a punk, used to spike my hair with gell. In the late eighties to early 90's, i had my hair short/long & permed. Now I have a scruff look, a nothing type of hairstyle that gets on my wick lol Elaine x

I used to have my 'spiky' cut done by the local tech college, and my 'coupe sauvage' trimmed by the junior at Selfridges in Southampton. I liked having it cut by the uninitiated - it was a surprise every time I came out!!! LOL maggie

Someone thought I should be fronting an indie band, the other day! I tend to go for the 'fallen out of bed' look in the colder months, but take it down to a '2' round the sides and back, and spikier on top later on in the year. I've reluctantly settled on paying £3.50 at the local barbers these days, I say reluctantly, as you can't beat having an attractive lass give you a head massage as she washes your hair in Toni & Guy but I'm not paying upwards of 20 quid for the privilege!

I've been cutting my own since 1965/66. Length has varied a bit over the years but the (lack of) style has stayed the same.

Hi Lucia, I wouldn't look at a bloke with short hair in the 70's - until I met my ex!!! He was in the RAF and had no choice LOL I had a mullet (2 tone skinhead), then an amazingly large Afro, then a very trendy 'coupe sauvage'. Moved to the shetlands and had a 'home hack' (cut it myself) for a few years, then in the early 80's had short spiked hair, then grew it long (mature student couldn't afford the hairdresser LOL )and wore a french plait for years. Had it all cut off 2 years ago. maggie

Long waist length hair until I reached 16 in 1980 then very short. As soon as I'd had it cut I grew it back to being long but had 6" cut off every once in a while. Now shoulder blade length and greying. Long hair is so much easier to look after. louise.

Hi Lucia, when I was young I was unfortunate to have an Aunt who loved Lulu. She used to take me to the hairdressers and say "Give her a Lulu" ! LOL So whatever hairstyle Lulu had back then , I had it too! As a teenager I had all the latest cuts, page boys, feather cut, a Purdie and the wedge. Must have looked a right state, mind you still do! LOL Christine ps CB My son has a waist length pony too but at 6'5" he never gets mistaken for a girl. LOL

Hi Lucia, I've had long hair since the 1960s, sometimes witha fringe, sometimes without. I let it grow to waist length in the 1970s but cut it shorter when my son was born in 1979, as he kept pulling it. It was unusual to see young people with short hair in the 1970s, and it was a constant battle against school rules. Worse for boys, as girls could tie or pin their hair up. My son grew his hair during his 4 years at Art college and University. He said it was a waste of money to keep getting it cut, as he'd rather spend it on other things. He had a lovely long blonde ponytail, and he kept getting pinched in pubs when guys saw the back view and thought he was a girl. He got a good few red-faced apologies when he turned round though! I had a huge FLICK with tons of hairspray latter 70's. In the 80's I had BIG hair ( lots of gel and scruching and yeah more hairspray ) to go with my shoulder pads lol. Late 80's and I wanted blonde hair on the cheap and used SUN IN lmao.In the 90's I started a family to less time to play and just a ponytail lol! Hubby was a Punk and used soap and sugar water to keep his spikey hair up and tons of black hair dye. Oh those were the days!! Much happiness Debi
