my friend has just found out her 5 yr old has to have 12 teeth removed on thursday. but she doesnt know if she would be doin the right thing in allowing the dentist to do so as he will only be left with the bottom front ones . wat would u do and wat would u suggest as she is worried about how hes gonna eat and the fact that he may get bullied limmie xxx

It depends why the dentist wants to take them out. I don't think he would take them out just for the sake of taking them out. Maybe he has some gum disease. Sylvia xxx

limmie surely if he isnt in any pain i would leave them where they are. he is at the age now where they are gonna start falling out anyway. as you know, your brother stuart had some back ones out at the age of 4,but this was due to an abcess. it really is up to emma to decide what is best but i would leave alone lol mum

Hi Limmie I certainly think she needs to find out why and if she is any doubts take the child to another dentist. Maybe it's a case of if they don't come out now it may effect the adult teeth which in the long term would be far worse. I dont think 5 year olds are going to take much notice of missing teeth. My son was the first in his class to loose his front ones and no one said a word. Children are pretty adaptable. Sheila My son also had to have two back teeth out due to an absess but it had no effect on him really

My friends 4 year old had to have all his out due to the medication he is on ruining his teeth. Granted it took him a while to adapt with his talking and eating, but eventually he was even munching on apples with no teeth! She worried about him being teased at school too, but he had no problems and they are coming in fine now. Don't know if the wee one your talking about is in pain but if he is, as someone who has been up half the night with toothache I'd say get them out! Christine

donna yes that is wat the dentist has told my friend . she also gave her son juice in a bottle but it also happens from using beakers too ( sorry jordi babe no more cup 4 u) lynda yes all at once the first dentist said only 5 teeth as the others could be filled but the second dentist said that he needs 12 possibly 16 meanin he will only have the 4 bottom 1s as they dont like to put children under anecetic( excuse the spellin) twice limmie xxx

Another little warning - my grandaughter's top front 4 are decaying - they are leaving then in at the moment - not because of juice - but Soya milk! She had an intolerance to cow's milk formula and was given soya milk as a follow on after breast feeding - so any new mums with similarly affected babies - be careful! - You wouldn't even think about not giving it would you??
