Just upgraded from blueyonder dial up. Everything seems OK but every so often the modem keeps switching itself onto standby, usually in the middle of something. Then I get page cannot be displayed and I have to switch back on again. Anyone any ideas. Shona

Hi Shona, I wish I had. I've had the same problem ever since installing BT Broadband. The Voyager modem just switches off completely, then when I try to close down PC and restart, the computer wont close down either. Of course, it's nothing to do with the BT equipment, or so they would have me believe. It's very annoying, and I do wish you luck in getting it sorted out. If you do, please let me know how. LOL. Will do Jan, The whole point of upgrading was to be connected all the time and free up the phone line. I didn't get disconnected with dial up. Shona

Me neither, but it was grindingly slow wasn't it. More expensive too in the long run. I do hope you have more luck than I've had Shona. Jan

What does the supplier say about it? Have you contacted them? Jan

Not yet. The usual answe is to put you through to technical help. Not ready to pay premium rate if it is not our fault.

That was exactly my argument with BT. They've stopped responding to my very irate e-mails now. I'm considering taking it a bit further but I'm just about to go on hol and if I do start anything now that's the time someone will give me a positive response and I won't be here to deal with it. J

Hi Jan, Just called telewest. They sent a software upgrade to the modem and guess what yep, it switched itself off again. They are sending a technician out tomorrow afternoon. I will let you know the result. Regards Shona

I had a similar problem when I went on to broadband. Had my computer man in the other day for something else and mentioned it to him. He said it was because I hadn't deleted my old modem. Haven't had any probs since. Might be worth a try if you haven't already done it Jeanette x

It's really no good going on at BT about this problem - It is almost certainly something on your computer that is switching you off. Have you deleted the settings for the old modem? Have you got some program in the background ( eg MS Messenger) that tries to dial up the old modem? Bob

Mine's sorted now - with a new Voyager modem AND had to get new filters for some of the phone sockets. So much for BTs denials. J

If you are having problems get in touch with blueyonder as I have had no problem. I have had blueyonder broadband since started

Bob, I'm such a techno-turkey if anything goes wrong at all I think it's my fault. What is that equipment you've mentioned. Jan
