After doing my feet for several years my chiropodist has finally had some cards printed but it says Podiatrist?? Is this better or worse than a chiropodist please? Have to go and dish up the burnt lunch but I will be back later to see if anyone knows. Thanks Chrissie x

Podiatrists are trained to treat people with Arthritus and Diabetis. they are Chiropodists with more qualifications. Shirley

Thanks Shirley and Mo. That explains a lot then. He presses on my veins and toe ends occassionally to check that my blood flow is ok. He is very reasonable, hope he doesn't put his prices up now that he has had cards printed lol:))

Thanks Mo - that was the word I was searching for when I put my blood flow - I meant circulation:) Yes, I didn't realise that he was so qualified. Mind you, it doesn't surprise me. Hubby has been having a problem with a painful heel and when I told him he knew almost immediately what it probably was. Chrissie x

Hi Chrissie I was wondering about that too, so I'm glad you asked the question! OH has just been diagnosed diabetic and GP said he would refer him to a podiatrist. We got outside and both said 'is that the same as a chiropodist?' lol! Just googled and found a site for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. On one of the pages it talks about a chiropodist and in brackets afterwards it says 'also known as a podiatrist'. So I'm none the wiser lol! Seems like the two things mean the same. Mandy :)

Hi Chrissie, I go to a Podiatrist regularly, I have severe arthritic feet, my toes have become rigid, he gave me several pairs of inner soles to try out to correct the way I walk as I turn my knees in and my ankle due to my toes stiffening and my arches dropping slightly, I had an op last year to remove a bunion and shorten toes etc, I then had to buy all new shoes, 'flat ones' :o/ I've had to chuck all my beautiful high heals! I now wear old gals shoes with velcro lol, I am only 50 and didn't expect that! So my Podiatrist corrects feet and walking by sorting out how your feet work and realigning my walking gait with inner soles or shoes depending on what you need. realigning the feet also corrects the blood flow to all areas like the others here have said. Hence diabetics going to them. Gillie XX

So I haven't really been much help then after all Mandy:)))) Sounds very painful Gillie. I hope all the treatment has helped. I only have a chiropodist/podiatrist!! because, under my big toe I have an ingrowing corn, I think it may be called a callous. If I don't have it taken out occassionally I start to walk funny to avoid it and then it makes my knee ache. Does anyone know of anything that would help hubbys heel by the way? He has tried various heel things (like inner soles) and has used it as an excuse to buy two new pairs of expensive shoes:)))) Sounds more like a woman thing doesn't it:))

Hi Chrissie, if your hubby's heal hurts in the centre part of the heal , the bit he walks on, then he probably has whats called a 'spur heal' it's a pointed piece of bone growth from under the heal, some people get them and some don't, it pricks and is very painful to walk on, it need removing by surgery, very quick op, usually a day case. Gillie XX And, yes my feet have excruciating pain most of the time when I walk but not as bad when I sit resting until I go to stand, but all I think is, well it won't kill me, I'm not going to die from this, others have far worse pain through terminal illness. It's something I've had to live with. :o)

Thanks Gillie but I don't think it's that. The pain is intermittent and is on one edge of his heel. It is worse when he first gets up in the morning and yet it is also worse if he walks for too long. You can't win can you:) It helps if I massage it (well, so he tells me lol:)) We found the complaint that the chiropodist diagnosed on Google but it didn't help much. I'm sorry to hear how much pain you have but I know what you mean. I have a skin complaint and look terrible in a cossie but I console myself that it isn't terminal and, apart from a terrible deep itch occassionally from the place where it started I don't even get pain.

Chrissie, I reckon your hubby just wants massaging, they find any excuse to be pampered lol, I'm lucky that my oh hates his feet touched :D, I love mine done, to get him to do it, I just plonk them across his lap and hand him the moisturiser to massage them with, he's very good to me and does them without complaining, he also does my legs and theres a lot of leg to do ! :o). I think that there are far worse off people in this world than me, I do sometimes feel sorry for myself, but hey, I'm alive! I have no idea what your hubbys complaint is, but I hope he can soon get it sorted out. Gillie XX

I think I should have taken lessons from you earlier Gillie. Hubby loves his feel playing with. He is always saying that his nails needing cutting or filing, even when they don't. I often stick mine up across his lap but I have to wiggle my toes vigorously before he gets the message:)
