Ann glad you enjoyed Staithes it's a lovely place and great you got to see where your g/mother lived we rented one of the houses for a week and had a lovely time. My you must be in better shape than me, I nearly killed myself going up the "wee" hill!

I went to Staithes today and managed the steep hill,it's not as long as I thought but kept having to stop, hubby said come on you can do it so there's another layer off my knees.

I found the house where my Grandma stayed on holiday and died, the fishermen carried her coffin up to the railway station, then she was brought back to Darlington straight to the cemetery for burial,in 1923.
The lady who owns the house was lovely, part of it is a shop and told me some bits of history.

Ron I can park on double yellow lines but don't know about the 40 minutes,I'll ring tourist information if i can find a number, looks like Hubby will have to drop me off then take car up the hill Thanks for that and what a lovely day to visit. What TIC???

Was at Staithes yesterday. No sign of any disabled parking spaces even in the main car park at top of hill. Limited Parking is allowed on the main street but limited to 40 minutes only. If you have a 'blue badge' could you park there same as can on yellow lines in most places? Enjoyed our visit, very scenic, very busy and not much turning space for cars that do go down to bottom. There are warning signs about clamping in the small harbour area. Parking there is limited to 'by arrangement'. I asked a resident about disabled parking but she said none. No TIC so couldn't query there. Hope this helps. Ron

Ann Phone the Cod & Lobster pub in Staithes. It's right at the bottom of the village. I know you used to be able to park outside. They will be able to tell you if you still can. 01947 841993 Dianne xx

Having 'googled' for Staithes I got the impression it's overseen by Whitby so I've just sent an E to Whitby Internet site asking if Blue Badge Holders can park at bottom of hill - my mate has a badge and we might visit there. Will let you know wot they say (if I get a reply) Ron

Parking in Staithes is at the top of the hill. We went once in winter tho (many years ago)and drove down to the harbour. If you have a 'blue badge' disabled permit why not telephone or E the nearest tourist information centre for advice and info.

Hi Ann we spent a week there and yes you park at the top of the hill (more like a mountain!!) not good for your knees I have angina and nearly had a heart attack. You are allowed to take the car down and drop of someone but must take it back up immediately so if you have an able driver with you then you should be ok. Its a lovely wee place Norah

Hi Ann I did wait to see if anyone could help you. I have just googled Parking in Staithes and it does not look good. It looks like you have to park at the top of the hill. I havent been to Staithes but went to Robin Hoods Bay just down from Staithes. We parked at the top of a hill and walked down a very steep road. Ok going down, but coming up I we were all glad of a rest even my 15 & 19 year olds. Cars did pass us going down maybe residents, but the road was narrow and I did not fancy taking my car down and I didnt see parking at the bottom. The walk was well worth it but if you do have probs I don't think it would be a good idea. Sorry I cant help more. Try googling and see what you think. Ria xxx

I have done but it say's the parking is at the top but my son seems to think if you are disabled you can park nearer the bottom of the hill, just wondered if anyone on here was from there.

I really want to visit Staithes but i presume that the parking is at the top of a long steep bank and as I have trouble with my knees i think I'll have trouble walking downhill!!!
