Hi all
not been about for awhile as i have damaged a disc in my back and up until yesterday found it hard to sit for long periods at the pc. Today i was having a coffee and started to read a family ancestory file on our family on my dads side, he gave me this a couple of years ago and i have flicked through it but decided to have a good read of it. I can not belive what i found, i have been doing research on dads side of the family for about a yeaar now and getting nowhere and as i was nearing the end of the book what do i find! Its only our family ancestory tree dating back to 200AD after i had got over the shock i couldnt believe how dumb i had been not to have seen it before. There are a few important people in the tree and some bad ones but to actually see where our family fits in is amazing. All i have to do now is transfer all this onto paper along with our family for my mum and dad and hope that they will understand it and they are not as confused as i am at the moment, but then again i am still getting over the shock. I cant even begin to think what it was like living in 200AD let alone finding our tree dated back to then. the information in this file has been collected over the past 30 odd years by a member of the family. I will keep you posted as to how i get along with re writing it and dont know how many trees worth of paper it is going to take lol

Denise

What a great find! Forced rest, change of routine and hey presto you get all that information. You will be the envy of all genealogy researchers! Good for you.

Hi Denise

I would be more than a little sceptical about a family tree that claims to go back to 200AD! Take it with a very large grain of salt!

I would also be very skeptical, as you rewrite it I would go through it and check to make sure each link is the correct one. If you were getting nowhere how is it someone else managed to do all that without the aid of the internet that we now have? I find it hard to imagine how anyone could get a tree back that far with the way there was so little documentation in the so-called Dark ages.

I also urge you to check out the 'info' before adding anything to your tree. It could all be totally spurious. I found 60 or 70 people on Ancestry who have my sister b in Ireland (stork was sadly astray there) and marrying a man who was b 204 yrs before she was, and they give her a baby b 180 yrs before she was. Some people just add anything and dont see how utterly absurd it is. In fact they do not do any research at all.

Well Huia, I've heard of dating older men but that's slightly absurd ;o)

Denise,

I am very happy for you...!

Personally, I have found more lies and intrigue then anything else...

Good luck!

I read in one of the genealogical papers that it is not possible.

Some time ago, a "hot match" with the same surname as me asked to see my tree. She was no relation but I found out later she had worked all my names into her tree, altering dates to make them fit. her "tree" was truly colossal.

One wonder what drives some people to invent.
