If you would like to support a good cause and do some of your Christmas shopping at the same time, can I suggest a new recipe book?
It's title is "Sharpe Chefs". All proceeds go to the National Osteopeorosis Society (a charity Sean Bean supports). Contributors include Bernard Cornwell ( the creator of Richard Sharpe) and the "Chosen Men" from the tv series. The recipes are many and varied and were all tested by other contributors to ensure they were straightforward to prepare.
The book will be launched on November 1st but you can preorder through the publishers at http://www.pickardcommunication.co.uk/sharpechefs.html

I forgot to mention that all author royalties are also being donated to the NOS.

This book is selling really well and is now available through Waterstones if you would like to look at it before buying. It is reasonably priced at 12.99 and if you do order online shipping is free when you order within the UK.
Wonderful way to complete the Christmas shopping all in one fell swoop!

Just an update. The book has now sold over 1000 copies and is widely available all over the UK. It will also be featured on Channel Five's "Cooking the Books" in the next couple of weeks.
I suppose I should mention my interest in the book.....I am one of the "Sharpe Chefs"!

The book is doing so well that a second print run has been ordered.......so plenty of copies for all those "hard to buy for" people on your Christmas list!
I'm also thrilled to let you know that there will be a book signing at Waterstones, Picadilly on January 19, 2008. Sharpe Chefs and Chosen Men will be there ready and willing to sign your books.

The book signing went off really well. With the help of the "Chosen Men" (Paul Trussell,Jason Salkey, Lyndon Davies and Michael Mears) we sold over 40 books. So far 4,000 pounds has been raised for the National Osteoporosis Society. There are still books available to purchase either from Waterstones, through amazon.uk or direct from the publishers at www.pickardcommunication.co.uk
"Sharpe Chefs" is now 13th on the Waterstones best sellers chart. Another book signing will be taking place at the store in Southend. I'll post details once the date is confirmed.

The next book signing will take place at Waterstones Southend-on-Sea branch on Saturday, April 5th. Times to be confirmed. Jason Salkey and Lyndon Davies will definatly be there along with the other Sharpe Chefs to sign your books.
An update from the Piccadilly signing; 30 signed copies of the book were left at the store and they have sold every one!

The Southend book signing was another successful day for Sharpe Chefs. So many people turned out to purchase a copy of the book that there was a queue out in to the High Street!
We sold 70 books, a wonderful total and it means more royalties will benefit the National Osteoporosis Society.
If you were there, thank you.

1700 books sold! We hope to present a cheque to the NOS in May.
Go to youbooks.co.uk for a report on the Southend book signing and there's the possibility of another book signing in Cheltenham this summer.

Waterstones Cheltenham will be our next venue for a book signing. Mark your calendars for July 5th, 2008. As before Chosen Men Jason Salkey and Lyndon Davies will be in attendance, along with representatives of the 95th Rifles Regiment Renactment Society.

‘Sharpe Chefs’ – the first cookery book for charity created by a group of ladies from all over the globe – has won the UK round in the prestigious GOURMAND WORLD COOKBOOK AWARDS 2008 in the category Best Fund Raising Cookbook. The next stage is to compete against other cookery books for charity from around the world.

The ‘Sharpe Chefs’ book was the result of a throw-away comment by Adele James almost two years ago and snowballed into a project that involved the director, producers and actors of the television series ‘Sharpe’. It also drew the interest of Bernard Cornwell, author of the ‘Sharpe’ books, who has continued to support the Chefs into book two: ‘Sharpe Chefs II – On Campaign’, published in November 2008.

The next stage is exposure at the Gourmand stand in The Cookbook Corner at the London Book Fair next April 20-22, where the book will be exhibited, and following that the awards Gala event, in the middle of 2009.

We are honoured to have been nominated for this award and proud to have reached this far in the process. We thank all those who made the book possible and all those who bought it, without whom it would have never been this successful.
