I am feeling extremely annoyed because the last few people that have contacted me and I might add, opened their tree to me without me asking, have all disappeared without bothering to reply to me and shut their trees!!!
Two of these people and I am sure they know who they are, have obvious matches to mine and in one case is a 2nd or 3rd cousin.
Why ask for information then?
Is it just a ploy to copy all of my tree without the hard work of spending hours and hours researching? At least I have the pleasure of knowing that my research is mine and had the enjoyment of finding lost ancestors.
I know that I am not supposed to offend anyone on these boards but I feel offended myself!

Perhaps they forgot to untick the open tree box, and decided you had time enough to see their tree and copy what you needed..

...for distant cousins I leave my tree open to them, unless they close theirs, then I do the same....

Perhaps you could get in touch and ask for the tree to remain open....

I know exactly what you mean, been there got the t shirt.Really annoying when it happens but there are alot of descent people on here who go out of there way to help. So don't let them get you down.

coz one was a guy I pmd and asked if he had a match he said no ....that was a year ago .....last week he asked to see my tree.................?

Sally, they had opened their tree so that I could see if there was a connection. There was, so I replyed opening mine to them which had a whole lot more infomation on it, so I dont actually want to see their tree, but a thank you or at least a reply would have been good considering the cousin thing.
Its like having the door slammed in your face!!

I know, it's sad Janice......I found my Grandfather's long lost family and was in touch with one of his nieces......but then she closed her tree and there was no contact......I tried many times, and then one day I just had her tree permission......and now seeing Christine's reply, wonder if it is a GR mistake......anyway, I now have done much more research, whereas her tree remains the same......so she must have left...

Also remember that some people don't come on the site that often. I occasionally get responses months afterwards.

I think there are many non active trees on here because just when you think there is a possible link, there is no reply from the person contacted.
It could be GR mistake, I have only just managed to get back on...

can i just ask....while we are on the subject

should i have my tree open to all my contacts?

or just those who ask?

Peter they should get an email to their private ac from GR I always do, I click on it straight away to see who its from!
