I'm having a moment of guilt!

Since about 6 this evening I've been having a look on Familysearch/LDS for members of my gtx4 grandfathers family and I have stumbled across about 100 new people that are all connected to my grandfathers siblings.

I've been adding these new members to my tree as the information provided is brilliant, there are birth, death & marriage details all in full, I now feel a bit guilt as this is someone elses research that i am adding to my tree but it is all there and its just too good an opportunity not to add it as all these people lead back to my 5xgt grandparents.

What would you do?

You are doing the right thing, I love it when I find research done by somebody else, but I always check it out-family is a very complicated word-good luck to youXX.

Well to be honest I have had contact from someone else on GR that has these same people in their tree and they are desendant from my 4xgt grandfathers sister.

this person has had the opportunity to follow these members up as most of them were born in the USA and she lives there so some of it must be true

I have a lot of information on my grandmother family from the Cosford Registry, This is 200 years of villiages in suffolk, and has been put together by interested people, so far I can go back to the middle 1600. but have checked some of it myself and everything on their is correct so far. my view is if they did not what people to use the information why would they put it on. just do a bit of checking yourself as everyone can make mistakes.

Christine.

I understand that some info on LDS is submitted rather than transcribed from originals - depends whether you think it is all OK and does tie in with any facts you are sure about. Not trying to dampen your spirits - but just a friendly warning!

Also I believe they rotate their info so sometimes when you go back to check something a few days later it is missing! So may be as well to keep a note of anything that interest you. Jx

It does have the name and address of the lady that has submitted the information on to the site, I might contact her and see if or how she is connected to this branch

Thanks for your help guys, it will be a bit difficult to follow some of it up though coz about 80% of the people were born in Utah, I've got a feeling that this branch of my family were mormons because one minute they were born in Essex and then the death details say Lehi, Utah, USA.

When I looked this place up on Wikipedia it said it was a mormon settlement set up in 1850 which fits!

I would also do some serious checking including looking at a map to see if the journey from Essex to Utah was possible.

I will do! I've just got such a good feeling about it all tho coz the information is so precise even right down to the burial dates the exact counties in Utah and Idaho!

I keep checking the counties out on Wikipedia just to find out a bit of history and to make sure they exist and I they are all there!

Hello Alaina,

The LDS have a cd with Mormon Immigrations, it contains Passenger lists with place of origin, and some journals of the elders. You may find their names on there. I believe you will be able to get one reasonably priced from your local LDS centre. If not look on the IGI site and one of the top bar search buttons will take you to a page with UK adresses. This could then be ordered by phone.
