Anyone think like I do that to be spending mega money on the Olympics while our armed forces are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan without the proper equipment is somewhat obscene?

Most definitely.

we seem to have a very odd sense of responsibility these days.
the powers that be don't seem to have one ounce of common sense to share between them.

None of our important services seem to have the correct equipment... and did I read somewhere about ambulance workers having to buy their own stab proof vests??

I agree, the treatment of our forces stinks, they are brave and undervalued,

This government are a disaster and thankfully I have never voted for them,

The problem is that this has been going on for over 30 years now , and because the mentality of the public has changed and the mums are worried about there children joining an Army and then having to go war , which is not to there liking .
I served from 68-91 did'nt hear any complaints from anybody when my mates were shot or blown up especiaaly when the Falklands was on and soldiers died there as well as Ireland . Yes I agree with your point but once you sign the dotted line your theres and so be it.

My brother always said

"Its what I am paid to do"

But that did not make it any easier for us home here.

As far as I am concerned our men and women should all be brought home.

If not give them what they need and protect them

God bless them all

Jean (Monmouth) Report 18 Nov 2007 19:34

Does anyone know the given reason that our troops are in these countries where they dont seem to be wanted by either side? If they are fighting for freedom from oppression O K but who says they are oppressed? Under any circumstances our men should be properly equipped. We used to have some excellent military hospitals, experienced in caring for wounded, but those have disappeared. Jean

The reason our Lads and lass's are fighting abroad is because
1. They signed a bit of paper saying that they would serve there Queen and Country.

2. Our Government has decided to send serving members and TA members to these places because the Government makes these decisions and because of signing up you must do your duty and obey.

3. But what is not taken into consideration is the amount of cutbacks the forces have had , as Jean said we had fantastic Military hospitals overseas , nearly all gone due to cutbacks , but my point being if a young person wants to enlist knowing that they have a 90% chance of getting posted into a volatile and life threatening situation and the parents have or cannot dissuade them from doing so then all we can do is give them our full support and pray that they return safely.

Twizzle, I agree totally with what you are saying, and all other contributors, particularly in relation to druggies winning medals - you can no longer trust any athletes which is a shame cos obviously they're not all on drugs. With regards to the Falklands, Mgt Thatchers big mistake I feel by the way, was there the same publicity regarding poor equipment? Can't remember

Problem with the equipment is

1. Do the people who purchase the equipment for the forces get backhanders to make sure that they order a certain Companies equipment even if it is inadequate and they fail to supply on time.

2. ( I know this for a fact ) We have to ensure that certain vehicles are built in England at a higher cost to ensure that certain factories who build these vehicles can retain there workforce.

3. And last but not least the amount of equipment , supposedly lost or misplaced in certain large storage camps run mainly by civilian personnel ( no offence meant ) yet no action is taken to try and stop it.
