It seems to be the norm here now for people to put up their Christmas decs in time for Thanksgiving ( 3rd Thursday in November) and even the radio stations are playing Christmas songs and tunes. I,m still old fashioned enough to observe the 12 days of Christmas.

In Gloucester the local paper has started offering their annual prize for the best decorated house so no doubt the big switch on will be this weekend. So much for conserving electricity, some of them have thousands of light bulbs.

I like Christmas, but personally feel, it starts earlier each year.
Hubby and I are both working part of Christmas - this year again. Hubby on day shift and I finish night shift Christmas am.
Decorations always come down on the 12th night tho.

Bet they're up before then though.............I get out-voted every time!! lol

Ann in Glos....the big switch-on has already started - the 'house of lights' near me has been lit up for about 10 days!

I've also seen several houses with trees and decorations this week.

Have to say, the lights in town *do look good this year though, even if they are several weeks too early for my liking!
My decorations don't go up until the Sunday before Christmas Day.

I was always brought up to have decorations put up on Christmas Eve and taken down on 12th night, January 5th.

When my kids were little I woudl put them up the last Sunday before Christmas, because so many people already had theirs up, but by Christmas Day I was already fed up of looking at them. Still kept them up to 12th night though.

Used to put my tree up with the advent calender, now it usually gets to the middle to December now the kids are grown up.

Changing my tree this year, have fibre optic at the moment but cant decide whether to have another one of those or one which I put decorations and lights on myself, best decide soon though Christmas is getting nearer.

My dads next door neighbour has her decorations up about 2 weeks ago... to be honest she shouldn't have bothered, they're looking rubbish and with no umph in it lol. But I have seen some gorgeous stuff on a house up the other end of his town where a friend lives, very simple but brill.

But ours aren't going up until the beginning of Dec at the earliest.

I spotted a tree up lastnight.

Usually put mine up about 1-2 weeks before xmas and down about the 4th.
