Do our Services Personnel really deserve

treatment like this? Reported in Daily Mail today that recently in the pool area of Leatherhead Leisure Centre where a lane was taped off for the use of service personnel from a nearby rehabilitation centre that this action brought forward complaints from other users of the pool. One 'lady' apparently in her 30's and old enough to know better was screaming that she paid for the use of the pool whereas they did not etc etc.

God help our services, members of the public give them this treatment, some towns have not even turned out when a local regiment has returned home and marched through 'their' town, the government ignore them, they are given inadequate equipment and clothing etc - they must wonder why oh why did they enlist.

No, they don't. In fact, the pool should have been shut to the public so that these brave young people could have their physio in private.

They should never have been subjected to the public gaze whilst undergoing treatment, and this would almost certainly have been a part of their treatment. It makes me so cross!

Not 'the public' giving them this treatment, Chris, but a couple of selfish idiots. Thankfully the majority of the public are not like that and appreciate what our lads have done.

The personnel were ushered from the pool to save them embarrassment - personally I feel that those people who complained should have been seen off the premises and banned from any future use of the pool area.

Now I agree with that completely.

I read it and was going to post on here but was so angry i couldn't get the words out!
It was disgusting, shameful behaviour and if I had that woman in front of me now......! I would take a very deep breath and tell her in no uncertain terms why she should feel privileged to be in the same place....as brave men / women who have risked and given so much......and who deserve our utmost respect and consideration.

Still too angry to be coherent! but you get the jist.........

Not only do the government supply poor equipment levels but they also closed all the military hospitals years back so now, when they get injured in the line of duty, they can't even have the proper rehabilitation and treatment they deserve.

It's disgraceful and I can't believe someone would react like that towards them. My experience of people in swimming pools has not been good though and people can become quite territorial and rude.

I was disgusted when I read that in the \Mail, and felt that the people who were so insulting to the men should have been the ones sent out. What truly nasty people, especially the 30 year old lady (I use the word reservedly). As an MP said, those personnel more than paid for their use of the pool. Pity they didn't publish her name.

Actually I was a bit puzzled, don't know if anyone on here knows the answer but I had to visit Headley Court in the course of my job once and I am sure they had a hydrotherapy pool. I wonder what happened to it.

They should never have closed the military hospitals, these men and women deserve to be treated properly.

My thoughts exactly TW, it was a very bad move to close those hospitals which were always excellent.

You have a point there, Ann, yes there was a hydrotherapy pool at Headley. It was also used by those in the community who needed it as well, if I remember.
