Hi Julie

If you live in London area I would say go for it. Evidently they are crying out for time-served plumbers there.

It is hard leaving a good wage and then going on your own, I did it...but as a plumber, he will do well I am sure as there is a def shortage...

The only downfall being SE is, you dont earn when on holiday/time off etc, no sick pay.....etc etc....but you can earn well

CB is right, you can claim for so much...but make sure you are a Limited Co:)....

always do your own tax returns, as CB has said, an acct will charge a fortune.

keep receipts for EVERYTHING, petrol, tools the lot....

As Whirley said, theres a shortage of plumbers and it is good money too. He needs to think about tax, tools, and if he'll have a partner. An accontant to help with the books would be ideal - unless he knows what hes doing of course.

the only thing with a limited co, is if anything, God forbid went pair shaped financially, they cant take your house off you or personal belongings....unless you used it as collateral.

Go for it I say....
