you can't buy turkey eggs, the meat is worth more than 'egg selling' :)

Do they throw the eggs away....

We had turkeys when I was a kid and we never ate the eggs because we never got that many. The eggs were saved to set under clucky hens not turkeys, dunno why
I don't think they lay too many eggs in their life span
We also had geese and never ate their eggs either, but I know that was something to do with salmonella and the freshness of the eggs. Mum used to cook for shearers and geese eggs were only used to make cakes.
Foxes ate more turkeys than anyone lol

I can remember having them in bucks ,as a kid ,many years ago,and have seen them for sale outside newcastle on the side of the a 69 and a few other places, but can't remember seeing them in Newcastle itself for a few years.
Havn't seen goose eggs for a long time ,but have to say that i always thought it was duck eggs that were very iffy if not very fresh.Badger.

Found this on t'internet -

Turkeys don't lay that many eggs, and the ones they do lay are used to produce more turkeys. The average egg-laying chicken lays 300 or so eggs per year, while the average turkey produces only 100 to 120. Chickens come into production at 19 to 20 weeks of age, but turkeys don't get cracking until 32 weeks. Turkeys are also much larger, averaging 16 to 17 pounds compared to 3.5 pounds for chickens. So you'd need a lot more room for a bird that would take a lot longer to produce a lot fewer eggs.

Another problem is that turkeys go "broody" easily--they want to sit on their eggs and incubate them. In contrast, egg-producing white leghorn chickens have had the broodiness bred out of them. They lay and lay and have no desire to incubate their offspring or otherwise be maternal.
