chatting to eldest today and saw some selection boxes asked if she wanted one in the stockings as I hadnt bothered this year.

She said no but asked if they had choclate coins in there, which they do. She said it was tradition for them to have them and wouldnt be the same without.

Now we always had choclate coins in uors when I was little.

What is the thing that always goes in your stockings?

If my memory serves me right Dawn, it's five things, to do with senses.
Choccy, to eat :) (taste)
Orange, for the smell
Book for eyes
Something to touch
& something for hearing, nuts is what we usually got.

Mine was always a tangerine, some money, chocolate coins, puzzle book and pens, and a small toy, usually one of those maze puzzles.

I stuck to that with my two as well, although I did add a small wrapped pressie, something that suited their ages, ie, for my son it was a star wars figure when he was small, but a can of Lynx when he was older lol

I always had a small present in mine as a child an orange and some chocolate. The stockings were my dad's socks. We didn't get much but it was wonderful.

My children and grandchildren always get a stocking from us and it is always filled with one or two smaller presents and all the small bits and bobs including fruit and sweets.

The grandkids love, waking up and finding a stocking at the bottom of their beds. Gives mum and dad another couple of minutes in bed before they have to get up at 6am in the morning for all the other pressies round the tree!

My two are 25 and 28 but will be here Christmas morning, and I still do stockings for them!

They always have a satsuma in the toe, chocolate money, a chocolate snowman, and then little things like socks, luggage tags/locks, keyrings, mini torch, shower gel, that sort of thing.

When they were born I made each of them a Christmas stocking with their names on, and they still use them. When they were little, I used to put a small pack of sandwiches with the bread cut into star shapes and wrapped in foil in their stockings, because they were too excited to eat breakfast!

I'll stop the stockings when they have babies of their own! Honest I will!!!

The chocolate coins are a must!

I had a proper old fashioned sugar pig in mine sometimes but I haven't seen one of those for years.

I use to have a puzzle book and colouring book plus little toys like those wooden ones which sort of jump when you press underneath them.

My own kids had little things like that too and we only stopped doing them a couple of years ago (they are in their 20s and one doesn't live here anymore!).

What used to amuse me was that our kids would bring their stockings into our room and open them on our bed. Our idea of them opening them in their rooms and giving us a bit of peace didn't work because they wanted us to see what Father Christmas had brought!

We always had chocolate coins, an orange, sugar mouse (not easy to get here in Oz) a coin in the toe and things like colouring books puzzles etc. Anything quiet to give parents a few more minutes kip!
Did the same for my lot, this year have told the boys (23 21 19 &17) they wont get its too expensive the things they like. 14 years old daughter will still get though

Merry Christmas to everyone

monkey nuts, chocolate coins, satsuma, parma violets and some random other bits.

One year, I did a stocking each for my parents. It was a secret that I managed to keep so well but I was so surprised at the effort that went into finding all the little things to put in them.

Mum broke the news to me today that I won't have a stocking this year. I was strangely saddened. Ok, so I'm 33 but it's the last year that I will be living with them in the house I grew up in (we're all moving next year, them off to a new place and me off to a flat). Would have been nice to go out with that tradition, especially as I've been so ill the last couple of months.

Don't know about sugar pigs, but you can still get sugar mice from this website:-
