Oooh, MO, you are looking older! Happy birthday anyway.
Re Christmas, we usually have the family here on Boxing Day as it suits both son and daughter better since they have 'other' families to consider and it doesnt make any real difference to us. Phil is a bit of a bah humbug man, he was never into Christmas. Another day will be in January when he is due to turn 80. And a week later will be my birthday (and sons). Phil was not really 'with it' on our 50th wedding (I had put weeding, had to alter it) anniversary last March. We didnt have any celebration or get-together apart from son coming up from Rotorua. My flower girl flew out to Myanmar early that morning and my bridesmaid and Phils best man are both dead, so it wasnt worth organising anything.
I shouldnt be on here, I have to think about packing for my long weekend away, I hope to leave about lunch time tomorrow. If I am packed. I hope I dont forget anything.
Huia.

Ann, I don't think we would qualify for Warmfront either, as we don't receive any benefits at all.
Mo, I'm sorry to hear about the new doors for your kitchen cupboards, let's hope that they will arrive earlier than expected. Will they be able to put the new cupboards in before the doors arrive? At least it will save some time, especially as we are getting nearer to Christmas.
Goodnight all, speak to you tomorrow.
Love, Sallie.xx

Well we are not eligible under the new scheme but we were a couple of years ago under the old scheme. We qualified to have most of our cavity wall insulation paid for and would also have qualified for loft insulation but we already had a lot and couldn't face emptying it to get the extra layer in.

We had warm front we dont have any benefits, well D got it because of the M.S. we had a new combi boiler , they allowed us a sum of money , we had to pay £99, extra... the most money was spent on scaffolding, our plumber/ property guy, said it wasnt really needed , but they are adamant it is health and safety, it was a huge sructure covered the entire back of the house and part of next door, I think it was only used once and we got the conservatory roof cleaned while it was up .....they have been back to service it all free...I would say give it a try , its either yea or nay.. we have friends who have had cavity walls done ....google it and the info is there ...
Huia, its always emotional at times when you are alltogether, but be with your family it does help.. and of course we are always here for you.... Phil wont know its any different, and he will be in a safe place which is important to you both,
love Jean xx

Hi again,
Huia, I bought two jumpers a couple of years ago, one for Jennie and one for her friend Laura, forgot that I had bought them, so bought them another one each. I found the first two jumpers I had bought, in the middle of February, when I opened a small suitcase that I was going to pack ready to go Richard's for a few days. I hope that you will be with your family for Christmas, it will be a bit easier for you, with the family around you.
Mo, the weather was the same here this morning, but started to dry up this afternoon. So it will be a lot nicer for all the fair goers. I hadn't, heard of the Home Front team, until it was mentioned on one of the threads on GR, can't remember which one it was. It sounds like a good scheme for those that are eligible for it.
Hope all our friends on here are all okay.
Love and best wishes to everyone. Sallie.xxx

Jean, fortunately my service was a 'small' one (garage words not mine), And the actual service was only £27 + VAT. Then there was the oil filter and oil, it was the tyres that cost the money £47 each + VAT.

Will you be spending christmas with your family Huia. I do hope so,as the first one will be very emotional for you. I bought a lot of stocking fillers,in the January sales,so I am ahead in those stakes. There are bag loads in our attic,but we will have to move them soon,as we are having new insulation put into the loft. It is being done by the home front team. Have any of you applied for it. Apparantly they were telling us,that if you are getting any benefits ie Council Tax help,they will allocate £3.500 per house. To go towards loft insulation,boilers,cavity wall insulation,and windows etc. The only thing they say we need is the attic being done again. But should our boiler break down,they will send someone out to repair it,or replace it,with us paying the difference. Thinking of you Huia,keep your chin up love. Bye for now. Love Mo xxx

Hello all.
Sallie, I have tended to buy things for Christmas when I see them, then put them away somewhere and forget about them or cant remember where they are! I havent bought anything for next Christmas, in fact the way I feel at the moment I am not sure I want to face Christmas. It will be my first as a virtual widow, or even a real one. That thought now has me moisturising my keyboard, better mop it up.

Good evening everyone. Hello Jean my lovely. I have not been gadding about,I'm sorry to say. We popped up to town this morning,but it was to cold to hang about,plus it was pouring it down. I am pleased that you have managed to get your paint,and tiles,and that they are what you wanted. Never mind Jean,it will all be lovely in time for christmas. Did I tell you that the order for my doors,had been lost,so now we have another three week wait. Ann,these days having a car is something of a luxury isn't it. It never seems to stop does it,what with road tax,insurance,petrol etc etc. But I know we would be lost without ours. My goodness Sallie,is it really 43 years since the Aberfan disaster. Doesn't time fly. It was such a tragedy,and should never be forgotten. All the young children,god rest their souls,lost to this world. Oh by the way Jean,I was not playing on Monday night in the game that was lost. But my partner and I won our pairs game,so keep backing me. No blood spilt just yet,at home here. I am not taking sides between son and Roly. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Evening all. well we finally got all the paint and all the tiles, nothing like our first try....lol.... but nicer ...so I shall be sending you all piccies of the finished project...may be Christmas before we get everything back... I struggled last night with legs,Ann, I went to bed early and always find it hard to sleep, so I think I dont need a lot of sleep, I recall being like that years ago, J would get up for work, and I had painted all the woodwork once, and baked lots of pies for the freezer,. what a strange woman...lol...
we had our car serviced and we didnt have new tyres but the bill was huge, how does one check that all the work had been done...
Mo, have you been gadding out today? do tell....
love to all Jean xx

Sallie No didn't manage to make an appointment as all the afternoon ones were full. Had the flu jabs though.
Just had my car serviced and new tyres fitted (well one more to come tomorrow, we had wanted the new spare on but apparently it is a slightly different size and a get you home only tyre. 7000 mile service, 4 new tyres, oil change (oil + filter), new door release cable (apparently the other one was broken) and £1.50 to dispose of old tyres. £272 so far plus tyre tomorrow another £47 + VAT, over £300. That is this months DSS pension gone!!

Hello Girls,
How is everyone today? Hope you are all okay.
Ann, I'm sorry that your OH's foot isn't better. Hopefully, you managed to make an appointment today, when you went for your flu jabs. Our surgery is the same, we have to ring first thing, the problem is there are so many trying to get through, that the line is constantly engaged, and by the time we get through all the appointments have gone. It drives me mad.
Jean, thanks for that, I'll try it later on, after we've had our dinner. I noticed that some of the U.S.A. scrap pages are very fussy, as you say alright if you like that kind of thing. Sorry to hear that you are sometimes still having pains in your legs--I hope that they will soon be a lot better. Were you able to get your tiles and paint today?
Mo, how are you and Roly today? I hope all is well with you both. With Jean talking about Christmas, it's started me thinking that I've hardly done anything towards it. I usually buy some presents through the year, as and when, I see something. There are a few people that I don't know what to get for them. I suppose I'll get there in the end!
I posted on Chat for the first time today. It is 43 years today since the Aberfan disaster. So felt that I had to add to the thread. It is only about 10 miles from where Alun and I were born and brought up--I can remember some men volunteers from the town going there to help. One of the teachers at the school was also from the same town as us, and we knew her quite well, luckily she survived. It was a terrible tradgedy and loss of life, and it still affects people today.
Well, going to do the dinner now, so I'll speak to you all later.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Morning all, another wet miserable day so far... but heh, at least I woke up...lol... Sallie I had a look, thanks, if you google free scrapbook ideas lots of sites come up, the ones from the U.S.A. seem quite fussy with lots of bits on them,still if it suits the one making it thats fine....
Ann, sorry T is having a problem with his foot, I am still having pains now and again, hence the early hour on here..
Mo, what are you like losing, my bet on you winning was not good news , get your finger out girl, Christmas is coming , so will need every penny I can get....say after me .. must try harder....xxxxxx
Has Marilyn gone on hos yet? hope I havent missed saying bye...
we are off today to buy the tiles,and hopefully the paint, I am so fed up with the chopping and changing , and the trying to get every thing stored in other rooms, where does all the stuff come from, I swear someone is coming in and adding to it alll....lol....and dont forget it has all got to go back !!! no wonder I cant sleep....have wonderful day everyone...
~~~~~~~ to our pals from over the seas, even Jersey !! ~~~~~~~
Mo, we lived in Great Baddow from 1968 to 1973. Sorry your team lost last night. Get your winter woolies out girl!!!
Sallie, OH's foot is no better, no worse. He can walk on it and can drive, the worst time for it hurting is in bed and when he first gets up, or when he gets up after sitting for a while. I THINK I have persuaded him that he should get it checked out. I know what it is, such a performance to make an appointment, have to phone first thing in the morning and these dark mornings we often don't see 'first thing'. Still tomorrow we have to see the nurse for our flu jab - we were away for the mass one last Friday - so he will see what the receptionist says about making an appointment.
Hi All,
Mo, sorry that your team lost last night. Never mind, better luck next time. So, you will have your youngest son at home for a little while, that will be nice Mo. Wish him all the best from both Alun and me, in finding a job. I hope he'll find one very soon.
I've actually managed to get a bit of the Scrapbook done today, so I seem to be getting there, but very slowly. Just hope that I will continue to be able to concentrate on doing it. It's gone colder here, and also had some rain, the same kind of weather that we have this time of year, Fair weather as it is called, in this area. Just hope it will stay dry for the Fair.
Ann, how is your hubby's food today? He really needs the doctor to have a look at it. Is he able to drive with it---or do you have to do the driving?
Huia, how are your eyes today? I hope they are better, especially as you are going away with the choir. I expect you are busy packing ready to go.
Jean, earlier on I went on 'do crafts' website, they have a lot of ideas for Scrapbook pages on there, it was very good. Have you been on it at all?
Well, I'm going to try and do another scrap page now, so speak to you soon. Take care!
Love, Sallie.xxx
Hi girls,how are we all tonight. It's good to hear from you again Marie. The layout of your home sounds really nice,so spacious as well. Good wishes for your grandsons exams. Are the fires that were in Queensland out now,only I thought I saw something about it on the news. I must ring my cousin over there. She said that when that bad dust storm hit over there,her home was covered in red dust,inside and out,and that the horses in her paddock were also covered,and they had to wash them down,she said that it looked like mud as it was coming off. Ann where abouts in Essex did you live. I was born and bred in Ilford. We lost 4-2 last night Sallie,but we won the pairs 2-1. Where we were playing last night was close to home,so we walked there. It was quite cold when we left home,but coming back it was flipping freeeeezing. I felt like my ears were going to drop off. It's no good,I am going to have to find my hat. I put it away last March,and I cant remember where I put it. Not long now Jean,till your holiday. Have you packed your suitcase yet? Did you manage to decide what colour tiles you are going to have,with the coffee and cream paint. Our youngest son has moved back home today,until he gets another job sorted out. I really think that the licencing trade,is a bit of a dodgy business to be in at the moment. And as he is on his own,most of the pubs want couples,and not single people. I will be back later,just going to make a cup of tea. Love Mo xx
Hello Marie,
I agree with Jean, your home does sound lovely, just the kind of place we need to live in. I wish now, that we had gone for a bungalow instead of extending this house--my trouble is, I let my heart rule my head, and then later regret it. Please wish Sebastian good luck in his exams from us. Well, I'm going to do some more of the Scrapbook I am making now, so that I can get it done for my cousin's birthday.
Take care. Love, Sallie.xx
