Morning all, the sun was out a short while but it is now looking very grey. Off out to do a food shop when OH is ready. He is just emerging from the pit so catch you all later. Have a good day no matter what you get up to. <3

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 10:36

Morning DET :-)

Perhaps your OH will be on cooking duty and surprise you with something tempting! On the other hand, if he is engrossed in the rugby, perhaps not :-D :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Mar 2016 10:50

Enjoy the shopping if you can LG. Will you have a lunchtime meal out or us that only Saturdays?

YG - it is his turn today. It'll probably be based around pasta. The broadcast ends at 5 today. Yesterday as it was an hour later I did lentils with smoked sausage & cubetti in a passatta, onion, garlic and herb sauce. It's one of our 'staples' but a bit fiddly.

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 11:12

Oooh, that sounds rather posh, DET!! It is one that I would have to politely decline, as I don't like the taste of anything smoked, other than smokey bacon flavour crisps!!

I do actually know what passata and cubetti is though! I use passata occasionally and have made a pan fried chicken recipe of Gino de Campo's that has the unsmoked variety of pancetta. I even paid for a rather pricey bottle of balsamic vinegar to include in the recipe :-D :-D

I've a wee winge. M left wrist and hand keeps losing sensation as in going numb.
Must have been lying on it?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Mar 2016 11:31

That sounds about right David. Hope it returns to normal later on today.

Balsamic vinegar is expensive, but a bottle lasts for ages. After a meal out, OH tried to 'reduce' some. Not sure the taste was much different as he poured it over tomatoes which were a bit acidic. Its annoying when a recipe demands a small quanitiy although its sold in a much larger bottle/package/jar. How many of us have things lurking in our cupboard that we've only used once?

The lentil concoction could be made with a unsmoked cubetti & plain or garlic flavoured sausage - the Mattison sort not the butchers sausages!
OH doesn't enjoy chicken so most dishes around that are a no-no. I had thought of trying the Parma Chicken that Maz talked about....if I could get away with it. ;-)

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 11:57

Your OH would surely know that it contained chicken, DET !! Or is it a case that he will eat some if lost in other flavours.

The sun is up and it is high time that I responded to the ironing board and prepped the vegetables, otherwise the day will be gone and nothing done :-D :-D

Catch you later!! :-)

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Mar 2016 12:09

As always, its a compromise. As long as it doesn't turn up on his plate very often, he'll eat it. It used to really annoy me when a whole chicken was so cheap. We did go through a phase of buying free-range birds which he thought tasted better, but you might just have well bought lamb or beef for the same price!
I don't really know if its the taste of the texture. Smothering it in a heavily flavoured sauce does help.

Have fun with the ironing - hope you can find something to listen to or watch to make the time go quicker.

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 13:34

Ironing done and dinner prepared! Lunch half eaten and a quick rest before tackling the garden :-D

David Report 13 Mar 2016 13:38

Noticed your mention of vinegar. I once bought a bottle of white cider vinegar
having read that it's good for what ails you.
Being a fool I took a swig out of the bottle.
Was a while before my gagging and spluttering subsided :-0
Cleared my throat and sinuses ;-)

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Mar 2016 16:30

Silly Billy - aren't you supposed to dilute it or mix with something else? He bought a bottle of Cider vinegar a short while ago. Goodness knows why.

You seem to be cracking on YG. Did you make it into the garden? OH for-went his RU game as we went for a walk (his suggestion). Its a little on the cool side; he wished he'd taken his woolly hat, and I my gloves.
Toad in the Hole tonight :-D

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 17:12

I did manage to get out there after a nana nap!! I have finished three of the larger borders and just have the narrow one that runs along the fence to do now. Perhaps when I get home from work this week I will be able to do an hour or two over a couple of days and get it finished.

Another year older and my back feels as though it is breaking now after 15 minutes digging :-( :-(

Well done on the walk. How come your OH missed his rugby? :-0 You must be in the good books ;-) ;-)

I love Toad in the Hole :-) Yummy :-D :-D :-D

It has been lovely here. I put on a heavier sweater to go outside but finished up in short sleeves. If it is like this next weekend, I will get the grass cut before the forecasted cold spell moves in and possibly brings the white stuff just in time for Easter :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0

Feet up now and relax while dinner is cooking :-)

Four pages are too much to plow through to read I am hoping there are no disasters .The weather has been lovely here the last two days and i have been at work typical as my garden is a tip. I am sleep again tomorrow and not off now until Saturday Like yg i will have to try and get out in snatched moments .
Det the chicken Parmesans are mainly take aways up here and although they should be easy enough to make they are never the same

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Mar 2016 18:44

My goodness Maz - you're going to be shattered come next weekend. I'm sure you're right about not tasting the same as the take-away although the recipes did look easy enough.

Well done YG. Have a good bath and hope your back eases - that why I potter in the garden rather than 'work'.

OH records the matches then whizzes through the chat etc hence not minding missing them 'live'. He's informed me there are loads next weekend; perhaps he's softening me up! We are both terribly unfit and get little exercise, hence the outing. Mind you, the Toad is going to undo any calorific burn-off. :-0

David

David Report 13 Mar 2016 18:49

Silly Billy? that's very polite compared with what I was calling myself.
I'd read it was good for all sorts of things, so gave it a try. It moved more than my sinuses. Supposed to sip a tea spoonful a day.

The rest of it went on my chips :-D :-D

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 13 Mar 2016 19:40

Evening one and all. We now have full cupboard,fridge and freezer. Just finished tea. Roast Beef and all the trimmings which is OH's favourite.

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 20:33

We are all heading to your place then, LG!! We can feast until Easter out of your cupboards and freezer :-D :-D :-D

Maz, it is definitely a case of popping outside and doing a bit for an hour for a couple of late afternoons/early evenings. Next weekend will look after itself and if the weather isn't good enough, I will buy some sheep :-D :-D :-D :-D

DET, I'm not fit either, so we can all join the same club. I don't think there is one really fit one amongst us :-D :-D

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 13 Mar 2016 20:35

I'll second the non fit comment. :-D :-D :-D. I'm fit (fit for nothing that is ;-))

YG

YG Report 13 Mar 2016 21:01
