Morning all

A work session first thing, hence the early appearance, but at least it's light!

Did you manage to get another radiator brush Maz? Hope today's shift is peaceful.

YG - that's awful news regarding the staffing levels. At least you've made your point. Was it recorded in writing? Just so your back is covered.

Have fun at the Belfrey today LG.

Good morning all, grey skies here but mild.
I used to lie in bed in the hospital listening to the shipping forecast on BBC4 :-D

Morning David.

That brings back memories of my younger days, only I listened to it in the evening. Was it just after the 'Bedtime Story' c 11 pm? Proceeded by the 'Seagulls' music?

David

David Report 16 Mar 2016 10:32

Hi Det, there are on the radio many regional shipping forecasts read by weather forecasters. I preferred the sombre BB 94.4 version warnings of cyclonic conditions at Shannon and Forties and Dogger.

It most certainly is David. I am pleased to be remembering and honouring all these men. 4 of them are OH's great uncles so family interest too.

David

David Report 16 Mar 2016 16:35

If you ever move on to WW11 my maternal uncle, my Mother's brother Ralph Atkinson was in the RN as was his brother George.
Ralph was killed in action. Torpedoed in HMS Corvette Bluebell escorting Russian convoys. He was a young man, acting as stoker first class

RIP

We are only researching the men from our town David. Loads of information for the wars on Ancestry though why not take a look and see what you can find on him. <3

David

David Report 16 Mar 2016 17:11

Elsewhere I have his service number. He is one of many memorialised on a plaque at Portsmouth. I have the date and time of Bluebell being sunk, the crew, their rank and names, the identity of the Uboat that sank him and its captain's name and their names of other RN vessels he sank. Made a thorough search on it 3 or more years ago.
Just thought I'd mention it.

His brother George survived the war and went to South Africa where he became a brick layer. He returned to UK and married and raised a family.
I last saw him at my Father's funeral 1990

Oh lovely David, it is nice when you get research done isn't it. My Grandad and 2 Great uncles fought in WW1. Grandad was at Ypres when it was completely flattened. Fortunately for him he was gassed and sent back to Blighty before the main onslaught which killed so many. I have records on him and ! great Uncle they were both Army. The other brother was in the Navy and his ship Janetta was sunk by a U boat and I have full records of him and also all the details of the U Boat and it's crew. They are all in my family tree folders.

Evening everyone :-)

You have been chatterboxes today :-D :-D :-D :-D

DET, no it isn't in writing or recorded, but we know they mean it as they want to repay a deficit in the next financial year. They are principally using the salary in our budget to fund someone for the training department. I'm not a happy bunny at all, as my colleague is likely to be off sick for the rest of the week, so just me :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0

LG, you have been sitting down this afternoon :-) :-) :-) Busy, I know, with your soldiers, but at least sitting :-D :-D
