Afternoon all. My joints are awful no matter what the weather :-D :-D :-D :-D. The best for me is mild and dry but that is on a good day.
Just got back from a large food shop and put it all away. Besides doing dinner later I am done for the day

YG Report 17 Apr 2016 16:23

Well done everyone on the job done today. I haven't ventured out for grass cutting as it turned cloudy and chill, although the sun is out again now.

I have done the ironing and moved a plant pot to find a nest of red ants underneath :-0 :-0 :-( :-( The spray came out and they are no longer!! Doubtless there are thousands more to replace them in hiding at the moment :-D :-D

Afternoon YG. I hope all works out for you with the QGP. I have just had an email from my cousin in Lincoln saying that my Aunt died on 12th March. She is the last one of my Mother's siblings to pass at the ripe old age of 93. She has had severe dementia for ages and my cousin has been her carer for over a year so it has left a huge gap in her life.

YG Report 17 Apr 2016 16:57

That is so sad, LG, but she certainly lived to a good age. She will free of the awful torment of dementia now. It must have been difficult for your cousin looking after her <3

I'm saddened to read that unfortunate new LG
Please accept my condolences
I wouldn't want to be the GP who makes that diagnosis on an OAP :-(

Thank you David, I haven't seen her for years but I do keep in touch with my cousin, her daughter.

It would be a real shame if you had to miss the QGP, YG. You’re not exactly a shy wall-flower, so go for it especially as M fancies a trip To Town.

Maz – that sounds familiar. It took me years to train OH.

What sad news LG. Your cousin must be devastated especially as her life revolved around your aunt’s. It’s surprising that she didn’t let you know earlier so that you could at least send flowers/a charitable donation even if you weren’t able to attend the funeral.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 17 Apr 2016 19:50

I shouldn't think the funeral is done yet so maybe she will send more details to me. We are in the Lincoln area over the Bank Holiday Weekend at the racetrack so we will try and pop in to see her then. She is absolutely devastated as you can imagine, poor lass. :-(

YG Report 17 Apr 2016 19:58

LG, did you or your cousin mean 12th April? If it was March, that is an exceptionally long wait.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 17 Apr 2016 20:32

Oh of course it was YG, that was a senior moment on my part. :-0 :-0 :-0. Must be well and truly over and done with

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 17 Apr 2016 20:58

Ah - that makes more sense then. She'll be sure to appreciate a visit if you're able.

LaGooner Report 17 Apr 2016 21:03

I am going to see if she is available. Only the other week when we booked our Band B I said to OH that I would love to see her again. We have not physically met since 1963 after the family feud broke out at Grandad's funeral. I only found her again about 3 years back and we have kept in touch by email,letter and phone ever since

I recently commented on regional dialects. While looking for my Father's ancestors I have found in a small place like Northern Ireland so many variations of the family's name, as follows Irwin, Herwin, Irvine, Irving, Ervin, Erwin, Irvin, Irwine
My name is Irvine, but you can see how easily oral to written records become distorted. The enumerator hears and writes down what he hears, which might be a tad different from the genuine. Allow for spelling mistakes here and there and you get the picture.

LaGooner Report 18 Apr 2016 09:17

We all have that problem David. My Dad's family originated in Derbyshire, moved outwards to Staffs, Leicestershire, finally London. You would not believe how many spellings of Measham you can get :-|

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Apr 2016 10:08

Morning all.

The spelling of my maiden name is quite rare. Our branch seemed to have kept the spelling when it moved from Essex while the rest deviated. The beginning & endings are the same; it's the bits in the middle!
ar, arr, ear, air, sometimes with an e after the r!
There's a suggestion it could have originated from Ireland centuries ago whilst Dad thought it was France after a place in Normandy. Possibly a DNA test would give a clue, not that I'm bothering.

It looks as if Maz might get her wish to play in the garden today, if Frog doesn't have other plans.

Not sure what we'll do. There was some muttering about getting bags of compost. Some of our seedlings need potting on. With the risk of frost, it's too cold to put them out yet.

Have a good day!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Apr 2016 11:26

Go for it Maz. Its fun! You never know, you might get to meet some of them if they decide to visit 'the old country'.
I still have access to Ancestry even though I'm expecting to be cut off at any minute. There's a note next to the renewal details saying 'special pricing'. Who am I to complain? :-D :-D

LG - isn't the greenhouse warm enough to work in? If we do pot-on, it'll probably be on the kitchen worktop.

Forgot to put the dishwasher on last night. Doh!
