I remember Fablon, my mother used it to line shelves in the larder?!! Who remembers Formica?!! I remember great excitement when our kitchen table was covered with it. bright red! very cheerful!!! Post just arrived, nothing from the hospital or from neighbours Sols! It's like living under siege here!!! Am off to clear out the airing cupboard, and hang out some washing! Good luck all you hospital and Dentist folk. Have to cut logs this pm Jane to feed our log burner, has to be today as doing it under wet and windy conditions doesn't seem a goer!!! |

With my first house 1961. The only things in the kitchen was a sink, cooker and small pantry. A year or so later I decided to build a built in kitchen. Went out and bought all the wood and plywood for the cupboards, and a big sheet of Formica to put on the tops. The Glue came in a big round tin with a scew top, and if you smelt it it would make you light headed (can't think of .name) When finished it looked the bees knees. with built in fridge, cupboards all around the walls. What it would look like, if we were to do it nowdays. Go# only knows. Can you still buy Formica. ???? |

No Frank, it's me Jane is referring to! after my observations about the Edwardian Shop!!! Hung washing, walked Millie, finished ALL the ironing AND hoovered upstairs, as well as the airing cupboard!! I'm flipping exhausted!!! Does anyone remember putting steel toe and heel caps onto shoes to stop them from wearing out so quickly? OH had them as he was (and is) very hard on shoes, also leather elbows on jackets, again OH had these for the same reason. Suggested it to Mark (son) and he just gave me a funny look!! |

Well that was a job and a half, I've just cleared the garden of leaves, couldn't see the lawn it was covered and there's still more on the tree to come down. I wouldn't have believed one tree could have so many leaves. |

I remember my mum lined her shelves with waxy type paper .I do not have any shelves so no problem. I do have a beam shelf high up with teapots on they need dusting but not good at climbing these days.I remember Fablon my husband got an old table when we first got wed and covered it in Fablon it kind of went bubbly and burnt because of the hot plates and teapot. I could not wait to get a posh table |

That three leged thing is a LAST. My Dad repaired all our shoes. I can see him now, sitting in the kitchen on a stool. He would get the leather from where ever, Soak it in water to make it supple, Put our shoe on the last, get a piece of paper and with his Rasp would go round the shoe. Then lay the template on the leather and draw round it. With a Stanley type knife he would cut the leather and vack it to the sole of the shoe. The last would bend over the nails, so they wouldn't stick in your feet Then he would put "BLAKIES" all round the toes and on the heels of the shoe. He would rasp of all the edges round the sole and heel, and paint with a black stuff to finish them off. When he did Mums she would complain that they were like "HOB NAIL BOOTS" |

Oh dear Mel, sorry to hear that you have to have an X Ray; A lot of us seem to be in the wars lately, is it 'old age'? or just 'fair wear and tear'!!! My goodness I've just seen the weather forecast, battening down the hatches is the order of the day!! the wind looks as though it will be quite horrendous!! Did loads of logs, now feel completely shattered!!! Shepherds Pie for supper, did it this am so is in the oven ready when we are!. Told OH that Victorian Farm was coming back tonight; "No" said OH "it's Edwardian Farm": I argued the toss! but SADLY it appears that he is right, growl !!! Anyway we shall both enjoy it which is the main thing!! Mel, your supper sounds nice, in fact quite yummy!!! Frank, you and Ros are certainly getting well ahead in your Xmas preps, making me feel guilty, (and jealous!!) |

It feels very wintry with all this talk of chopping and stacking logs, getting spare batteries, mince pies (just had to change this....put mice pies at first!) and icing the xmas cake. |

You missed your look alike then Ann x but how strange she was she told a story about her dog swallowing her panties and later the dog went to the toilet and out came the panties retrieved by her son. Weird I thought I saw the repeat Loose women show not long ago. Maureen said she is so proud of cleaning up after her dog she told her daughter in law about not cleaning up after the dog and drove round until she came to the place the dog had toileted and got it up. She claimed her fans thought she was mad cleaning up after her dog in a well known London area. I clean up after my dogs but not that bothered if I miss a few you never what dogs intend to do. |
