Maureen Report 24 Sep 2013 17:13

I might have guessed it, been waiting for days for the sun to arrive and here it is today when I've had a whole day ironing.

Have a great holiday Jane shall be thinking of you tomorrow, did you say you were flying from Birmingham?

Yes I was thinking the same, could be stress and tension over OH's op Mel that has made you feel all achey. A good night's sleep tonight should do the trick.

Had a visit from son and family yesterday, Finley came in with his school uniform on, first day of school yesterday, he looked so grown up, when I asked him if he'd had a good time he just replied "of course".

Enjoyed reading your post Ruby, I could quite easily eat a box of chocolates or a packet of biscuits in just a couple of hours, that's why I don't buy any. I will look forward to seeing the photos when I'm up and running again.

That was a silly question from that doc Frank, makes sense to go on the list, you can always change your mind later.

That's a lot of fruit Mandy, I'm not a great fruit eater only really like kiwis so try and have two of those a day but I have been going down the garden and picking an apple each day from the tree. A lot have fallen so I've left those for the blackbirds, I'm so squeemish, I have to cut the apples into small pieces to make sure there are no maggots, I bought some figs the other day and cut one in half, there was this thing moving around, too thin to be a maggot, it looked like it was standing upright waving at me, yuuuukkkk. I threw all the figs away.

So you are on the list then Frank .Sounds like that will be the answer doesn't it.Hopefully you can manage on your knee until the replacement.

Phewy it has turned out so hot now. It's beautiful. :-D
I think I have packed most of my things now.Just toilet bag to sort tomorrow and Kindle and Camera are being charged up right now.Chris has completed his packing and his suitcase is all strapped and labelled. If I hadn't spent 2 hours down a Fitz I would be much more organised :-S.He wanted me to look at a MASSIVE album of photos he has done of all his pics of Venice. While I was there we were discussing some of his Mothers old lamps that really need to be rewired. She has some beautiful old ones.Anyway he was just about to show me another one and when he picked it up he got a terrible electric shock from it.Through the palm of his hand right up to his shoulder. He yelled and threw the lamp across the room(frightened me to death). Then he felt faint :-0 :-0.Honestly he is a liability :-S :-S.But thank heavens it wasn't worse.I don't even like to think what might have happened.

Lamb Shanks for Chris and me tonight. With Mash Potato ,Broccoli,Asparagus, and whatever other veg is knocking around in the fridge that needs eating.James has the left over Roast Beef from Sunday which I have sliced and covered in loads of gravy.(He is not a Lamb lover).Jess arrives about 9.30 tonight.Think she might be here for about a week.I am going to leave her in charge of making sure my birds are fed and watered.Hopefully I can trust her to do that !

Mel maybe all that sitting around in the car yesterday plus maybe feeling a bit tense with OH having his op has made you feel all achey today.Hopefully you aren't going down with something.
I have a few bits on the line I need to get in especially the top I will wear tomorrow.

In the morning I want to do a bit of dusting and bathroom cleaning.........Chris gets quite cross lol when I start all that on the day we go away lol..But he should know what I'm like by now !!!

Fiona, I hope your OH hasn't too long a wait for another flight.I expect what he thought would be a quick and easy journey has turned into rather a long day :-S

I'll be back in a while

Afternoon all,

So that's where the sun has gone today, we've had cloud all day but it's not at all cold ,i've had the doors and windows open all day.

Got some nice Victoria plums from the market today ,i was going to stew them but i remembered i had some cooking apples in the shed so i stewed them instead ,hubby will like that for his pud tonight with some custard ,i will put a couple of plums in his lunch box tomorrow .
Then sister turned up with a carrier bag full of eating apples and pears !! i'd bought eating apples and nectarines off the market too !! all this fruit think i will have to pass some on to son for the little ones.

Thanks Ruby for the photo's ,oh that spider with all the zig zaggy web !! i've never heard of them before, the okra has a pretty flower .

Now Frank, calm down don't you be having a go at poor Ros :-( :-D i think you've done the best thing going on the list , as you say you can always cancel if your knee feels better .

I suppose you are having to help OH in lots of ways while he has his arm in the sling Mel, hope he hasn't got to much pain ,when sister had hers done a few months ago she said the hand was ok when she kept it still but painful when she moved it .

I can't seem to get going today at all. Don't seem to have any energy...................

Must think of something for dinner. Maybe a sheep sh*t pie as that will be easy for oh to eat. He said he could'nt get the top of the coffee jar this monring with his left hand!!

Sun is out here too Frank and it is quite warm. Shall have to go up the tunnel for some carrots and pick some beans.

Frank

Frank Report 24 Sep 2013 14:25

How wrong can you be. Everywhere is bathed in sunshine.

Ros got a line of whites (bedding) out this morning. Must be dry by now. She has been busy tidying the patio, pulled all the pots out and swept behind them, clean as a new pin now.!!!

I had a terrible night last night. Lost it a bit with Ros, and stormed off to bed. was still awake at 3.30 am. I don't think my knee enjoyed being pulled about yesterday. as today it's quite puffy. and aching.

I did manage to stand in the kitchen to do the veg for tonight's dinner, got Ros a sandwich and a cup of tea at lunchtime. I will have to get the washing up done soon, cups and plates everywhere !!!

I'm back down to bare chest and shorts May it last, another couple of weeks of this will be fine ;-) ;-) ;-)

Time for FORTY WINKS, me thinks !!!

Morning my little Darlings,

Didn't get back on last night, as I felt so tired.

As we left yesterday to go to the hospital, a neighbour across the road called out "I've just bought a new SAW" I can operate anytime you want. :-P :-P

My appointment was 3.10 pm At 4.15 the nurse came into the waiting area to say the all appointments are running 45 minutes late, so I said "that means I should have been in there 5 minutes ago " When we finally went in. They left us 15 minutes before the "Doctor came in " He looked about 15 years old and really didn't seem to know what I had done. Off he went to see MR AULD and came back to say I would be put on the list for a replacement knee. BUT would I like to wait THREE MONTHS to see how it was progressing. I said NO. PUT ME ON THE LIST. If I feel better before the operation, I can always refuse it then. I DON'T want to waste another 3 months. Got out of there at 5.30 pm

Mel, If we got paid waiting time at these hospitals we would all be rich. Glad Oh had come through his op O.K.

I had a visit from the man from BEN (Motor trade benevolent fund) He calls every 6 months to see how I am. He has to go into hospital for gaul stones on the 10th Oct. He has been back and forward to A & E at all various times of night. I thought they would have operated as an emergency.

ONLY 92 days to CHRISTMAS. Come on you girls, start stocking up those cupboards. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Not long for the JOLLY HOLIDAY girls to set off. BEHAVE YOURSELVES.

Thick FOG here this morning also, they say we might get sun later, but I doubt it !!!

Ros did that S & K pie last night. The amount she put on my plate. I thought I was "Desperate DAN" Cleared most of it though. !! Back to a roast tonight, as we didn't have one SUNDAY>

Morning all and evening Kim,

Gosh do I ache this morning? Everything aches toes back and ribs o and fingers. I feel like I need to be stretched and everything to go back in place!! Whether it was yesterday walking around in a sleeveless t shirt and cotton shirt I don't know but I feel I need something warm on my back.

Oh took his sling off in the evening. I put a pillow under his arm when he went to bed as he was supposed to keep it raised. He was fast asleep on his left side when I went to bed. We also loosened the bandage as he was told by the surgeon.

Ruby the pics were amazing. The okra looks like it has a pretty flower. May try some next year. No way could I eat 19 chocs straight off. I would be lucky to eat three on the trot.

Morning/Evening All
It's a bit more than misty here Ann.Thick fog !!.But like you it's warm and I have the patio door wide open just for a bit of air.Hopefully it won't take all day for the fog to clear.

Ruby ,thanks for the photos. What an interesting place to visit. Not sure i would fancy sitting on that Veranda with the stones holding it up lol It take you and George sat on the more solid one :-D I love the Writing Spider.Have never seen one that does that.
It is so easy to munch your way through a box of chocs without realising :-D.Especially the big tins of them at Xmas. Then we all feel sick :-S

How's our Frank this morning?????I hope he wasn't kept in .
And I hope that your OH has managed to get a good sleep Mel and that his wrist is not too painful.

Must press on with things.Lots to get done today.

Morning All,

Proper 'autumn' feel here, damp and a bit misty, but not cold at all.
I've just drawn all the curtains and pulled the bathroom blind down. Shower next and the window cleaner is bound to come while I'm showing too much PINK!! lol. Then off to get the Ham*erite paint for the gate. BBL :-)

Glad all went well today Mel. Did you have to fold him up to get him in your car? I bet he was glad to be home again and what a tedious, long winded day for you. Yes a book or newspaper is a good idea when you are hanging around at a hospital, helps pass the time. He won't be bellringing for a while I expect.

Nice to hear from you Ruby.......I know what you mean about 'leaping' my days for that are over too I think!! George must be enjoying his time with you and how nice the cotton fields must look when they are all white with the cotton.......are they called 'bolls' or something like that? Glad I'm not the only one who can eat all those choccies and then wish they hadn't as well. lol. I hardly ever buy biscuits for the same reason! Look forward to seeing your pics. :-) Yes, Zinnias are pretty aren't they. Hope you enjoy your Barbeque Restaurant. We often get hog roasts here at big events.

Off to bed now.........is Frank still waiting for his good news?........or has he left us all 'dangling'. lol ;-)

Ruby Report 23 Sep 2013 20:16

Hello all,

I'm glad the fellows are all getting their bits taken care of. Aren't they all fortunate to have a good woman to help them?

George brought me plenty of choccy, and I've just opened a box of Ros*s. I happened to look down at the bag where I'm throwing the wrappers and couldn't believe I'd had so many. I counted the wrappers and there were 19 in there. I gobbled that many in about 5 mins. I feel a bit sick :-D

We had a lovely day out yesterday, I took a couple of pictures of the cotton growing - it's just popping open, but couldn't get very close because there was a big ditch all around the fields, and I can't leap any more. Some days it's hard to even walk! We went to historic Brattonsville and I took a few more pictures. Some of the scenes for the movie "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson, were filmed there. We sat on the front porch of the big house and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. I'm sending a few pictures - one is of a 'writing spider' and it's web. It's real name is Argiope, but it puts a zigzag design down the middle of it's web, hence the nickname.

We're going to a Barbecue restaurant tomorrow evening. BarBQ in S Carolina is usually made of pork. We lived in Texas for about 14 years, and BarBQ there is mostly beef. The food in Texas was wonderful, especially the TexMex restaurants.

I have zinnias too Mel, and they have been fantastic all summer. The butterflies love them too.

Happy holidays you lucky ladies. I hope Frank has had some help today from the doctor.

Evening all,

The day has been better than they said it would be after a very foggy start , we had sun this afternoon so i hung the bedding out and got it all dry .

You had a long wait then Mel, glad to hear it all went ok and that he's now home. i think the time seems to drag when your waiting about like that , you should have taken you book and had a read in the car .

Frank, hope you've had good news !!

Ann, that's a lot of up and down the stairs !! maybe the in-laws can do more than you think .
I see the supermarkets are getting the christmas stock in too, they just seem to get earlier and earlier .

Will you sleep elsewhere tonight ,just incase you knock his hand?

Seems like we are all having trouble with the internet. It's been a real pain :-S

My hair done too Maureen.I'm sure you really think it worth having yours done (esp for the holiday) :-D.Why not splash out on somethings you like. You might find the same boots again if you changed your mind at a later date.I have finally sorted out most of the clothes and shoes to take. They are all on the spare bed now.Like you it is so difficult to know what to wear to travel in when you leave so early in the morning and arrive in heat.I have a short sleeved top with a thin cardigan and black jeans.I will wear them to the hotel on Wed night and just pop the same on to fly.The cardigan can be rolled up in my shoulder bag.I will probably need that when we get the water taxi from the airport to the Hotel. It is so expensive for the water taxi but its a very exciting way to arrive :-D plus the hotel has its own landing stage. So door to door from the airport.I think it will take us 40 minutes or thereabouts .

How has your appointment gone Frank? All good i hope.

Mel I hope you managed OH's car alright and that his op has gone well.

Ann I think too that your In Laws sound more capable than they make out lol.
I'll try the washing up liquid on the suckers. But they do feel well stuck on at the moment.I did wonder if the Window Cleaner might have dislodged them a bit last week.

We had a little Blue Tit in the Kitchen this morning !!!.How it managed to get in the window heaven knows as the window opens out from the bottom and was just open a few inches.Luckily Chris got it out without too much bother.
I wondered where Chris was just now ........just found him snoring his head off on top of our bed.He must have suddenly come over all tired.
It's Pasta tonight for us.I still feel full from yesterdays roast :-D

Hi All back safe and sound and we went in MY car after all. I was happy with that!!

His appointment was'nt 10.30 as I had said but 10am. I was up at 7am and we left at quarter to nine. All chickens let out and fed and we arrived there at Barnstaple at about 10 to 10am. He was taken straight to the ward and the nurse could'nt tell me how long he would be. I went down to the basement to the cafe which had just opened again today after a refurbishment and had a bacon and egg sandwich and a fresh orange juice and took my pills!! Went back to the car after and had a sit but got bored so went back in for a pee and back to the car again. Had a chat to a fellow sitting in his car near mine and he was waiting for his wife who was in the eye clinic with his dau. Had another sit in the car and nearly dozed off so got out and had a stroll on the grass. There was a mans garden just by where we parked with a whole mass of lovely coloured flowers in regimented rows. They looked like Zinias and on a closer look they were. I shall definately be trying some of those for the border next year. A proper old fashoined flower. Good for a cut flower too and could be useful for church flowers if the rabbits don't eat them.

Went back in the hosp about 11.30am and asked the nurse at the desk if she coudl give me some idea what time he could be out and she told me he had two more to go in before him!!!!!! then said about 1pm to 1.30pm she thought. Went back to the car..............had another stroll on the grass and found some conkers but most were only small ones but one was BIG. I just cna't walk past conkers I just have to pick them up when they are all fresh out their shells, that wonderfull colour and so shiney. Went back in and sat in the waiting area but was'nt there too long and out he came with his arm in a sling and trussed up to his chin.

Fed him when we got back and then he went for a lay down to watch a bit of telly.

Now I must wash up as I hav'nt done it yet.

Maureen........I'm afraid I don't tip my haidresser. Well.......if she can afford to run a Porsc*e and pay a mortgage on her own, the pay isn't that bad!! The tax position on tips can be tricky too.......if paid direct to the employee there is tax due on them, but no NIC, but there are different rules if the employer or a troncmaster deals with them........funny how you don't forget some things from your past life!! lol. Good for you getting both pairs of boots! Get them when you find them as often they are awkward to find with a good fit round the leg and foot and the right length.

I don't think my washing is very dry, been that drizzlyness in the air today.

The garden centre yesterday was putting up their Christmas trees and lights. :-0

Annx Report 23 Sep 2013 16:42

Afternoon All,

Internet has been down all morning here too! :-S

I was up and decent in good time for the window cleaner this morning and he never turned up! :-S I bet he will be here bright and early tomorrow so I'll have to be up early again. :-(

Went and did the shopping this morning and I was going to paint the wrought iron side gate this afternoon, but can't find the paint!! I bet it's SOMEWHERE in the garage, unless I'd used it all last time I did it. Too late now to fetch some as the traffic will be awful, so I'll try again tomorrow. This afternoon OH went to MIL's to borrow their workmate to use with his own to suspend the trellis panels between to paint them . It's the second time he's found them in the back garden on their knees sorting the soil in more of their pots with no sign of needing the walker or walking stick. I'm beginning to think they aren't as bad as they make out, but maybe I'm wrong!! MIL is having eyedrops 4 times a day since her cataract was done and they take the eye drops out of the fridge and then climb upstairs to do it! You wouldn't do that if you had mobility problems would you.....you'd do them downstairs.

Frank........ OH's club has had a fortnight's stay of execution, but it's not hopeful. After all the eating, drinking and being merry I should think you need a rest now.

Jane, rub a bit of neat washing up liquid on the suckers on your birdfeeder and it will probably stick ok then. I like the colours you have chosen for the lounge, nice and fresh.

Did you see where Inspectors are to be sent into a school that orders non faith teachers to wear the hijab. It is alleged that the girl pupils have to sit at the back of the class and give up their place in queues to the boys.
