Mel, I AM SITTING ON THE NAUGHTY STEP :-D :-D Have managed to cut the back lawn and trim the edges, while Ros was at Tesc#. It looks so much better, with all the lines ,and they are straight !!

I must haved missed the news of Mandy's. So sorry to hear it, and so close together. Pass on my regards to Colin, even if I don't know him.

Can't answer that one Jane. I NEVER ASKED. Stupid Boy !!!

Johnathon called this afternoon, with a bag of cooking apples. That will be a job for tomorrow, getting them ready for the freezer. We have a very bad crop on the tree at present, more falling off, than on the tree, and they are no size. I think it might be time to replace it, it's been in 15 years. The pear tree hasn't bore any fruit either this year, so I think that might need to go also. No point in keeping them if they don't produce fruit. Anyone else having trouble with fruit trees ???

Ros is in the kitchen, making marmalade. We buy those big tins, that you add sugar and water to . We eat so much of it. It's beautiful.!!! The eight jars will last a few weeks only.

Ros dropped off a nice Orchid to Carolyn, and a bottle of scotch for John, to thank them for taking us to Hastings. It's so kind for them to think of us like that. !!

Sun still shining ,and I am still bare chested and in shorts.

Not sure what we will eat this evening. Indian is definitely a NO NO. So it will Chinese for Ros and I might have F & C.

.

Afternoon all,

Hot again, but your right about the morning nip in the air Jane,i woke up about five and got up and closed the front window as it was really nippy .

BIL's funeral is this tuesday at 1-15 at St Faiths Crem ,hubby's not to bad he's keeping his self busy and i think it helped a bit yesterday having the children here, as he said his sister was really going downhill so he expected to hear any day she had passed away ,but not his brother ,he was quite fit .

I'd never heard of those gardens Jane but i had a google and what a place !! :-D well worth a visit i think ,32 acres i wonder if you would see it all in a day !!
I was reading that one of the owners does the flowers for Norwich Cathedral .

What are you like Frank !! fancy walking all that way with your knee as it is you naughty boy you !! :-D
You get that knee rested up ,you don't want to get there and they say its to swollen to operate on and have to come home again !!

Pizza for us tonight ,we will have that later as we're off to see sister tonight ,she tells me that she has given in her notice at work she's had enough ,she had been there looking after the elderly residents for a lot of years now, about time she has some time for herself but i know she will miss them all she has been really dedicated to her work going in when others wouldn't work especially at christmas time so i'am sure she will be missed by them all.

We still haven't had birds on the feeders ,i suppose the berries are about and they are feeding on them !!

Mandy, so sorry to hear that Colin has lost another sibling. He must be so upset losing two in such a short time.

Frank will you NEVER learn. Fancy doing that to yourself just before your op.

Jane Report 31 Aug 2013 13:25

Afternoon everyone.
Another lovely day.But there is a definite nip in the air first thing in the morning.I have a row of Swifts/Swallows all chattering away on the TV Aerial. They make such a racket lol.Is it Africa they go for the winter? I can't remember.

Frank I am still going through all those emails .I love the Cat and the Owl one :-D
You better rest up that knee a bit before you go in for the op.So you go in the same day as Fitz goes in for his op on his little fingers.

I missed a call from my sister this morning. She was ringing from Norway, but said she would try again this evening.I bet they are having a lovely time just relaxing and seeing the amazing scenery .They really do need this holiday .

Chris trimmed back some firs this morning .I wasn't happy about him doing it as I think there might be a nest of Woodpidgeon .But he only went up so far as I told him I wouldn't forgive him if he disturbed anything.

That is good that the Seafront at Hastings is well looked after Frank.I would imagine the at most places like that they need to keep on top of things otherwise the tourists would go elsewhere.I have never been to Hastings .In fact there are so many places in this country I have never been to.I think it will be a good opportunity when Chris has finished work to make sure that we make an effort and get out there and see more of our lovely country.

Mandy I hope Colin is ok after his double dose of sad news.

I think it is time now for a spot of lunch.I have some left over Mediterranean Tart and some cold sausages.I think that will do fine.
Frank is Kim still having trouble getting on to GR?

Good Morning all/ Evening Kim.

I saw KIM on FB last night. I sent My her a message to say you are hoping she's well, and if she would like to send me a letter on FB I will pass in on.

Don't you believe it Ann, My walk has completely buggered me, even having stops and sits every few hundred yards. My left knee is the size of a JAFFA Orange, and so puffy round the knee cap. , I think it is fluid, and it's so painful. But you can't put me off when I get it into my STUPID HEAD that I want to do something. I can say "I DID IT" Ros and Carolyn said I would suffer, and they were right as USUAL.

Jane I go in on Tuesday 3rd Sept. at 7.15. Ros has said she will not collect me, unless they have done the operation. SO NO COMING HOME WITHOUT IT.

Have sent a lot of "SILLY'S" this morning, so hope you enjoy them. It has taken ages to send them to everyone.. If there is anyone apart from Mel who doesn't want them, let me know ??

Nice fresh morning here, Two lines of washing out,

I am going to get the mower ready,, so as soon as the washing comes in, I can get my lawns cut.

I must comment on how clean the Council keep Hastings sea front. The bins are emptied TWICE A DAY. The whole sea front is swept and a man picks up what the sweeper can't get. Then the washer comes along, and washes the promenade .
Threre are lots of Councils that could learn from them !!!

Jane Report 30 Aug 2013 22:54

Ann, I doubt that Fitz went to investigate anything lol He isn't for one looking at gardens either but said he is so glad he went to that one.He actually met one of the owners as he was wandering around. The chap was in pink shorts!!!.Flamboyant is the word lol.I think they might be in their 70's now.But what an amazing place the they have created :-D

Frank it sounds like you have had a great few days away.As for those portions of Fish and Chips .......HUGE !!!

I have my wedding ring back :-D after being mended. It is gleaming.I hadn't realised how dull and dirty it was :-S

Well I am nearly ready for bed.Chris has gone up so I will give it 20 minutes or so to make sure he is zonked so I can read my kindle with it's light, and not disturb him.

Frank what date is your op? Did you say the 5th?

I got the fright of my life again today(the first one was the woman driving up the wrong way on the slip road from the A14}.This was 3 young lads on bikes .I was driving on the main road to go to the dentist and there were 3 young boys on their bikes on the pavement .They were messing around and one pushed the other so his bike ended up going off the pavement into the road right in front of me.I braked and swerved and shouted at the boys. They obviously couldn't hear what I was shouting ,but got the gist, and the response was to give me the 2 finger salute and a few choice words.
If only they realised how close this one lad came to being dead !!

Night Night all hope you all sleep well tonight zzzzzzzzzz

Annx Report 30 Aug 2013 20:39

I just googled those gardens Jane and they do look fantastic. Definitely a place to go if you are in the area. The owners are certainly flamboyant in their dress!! Did Fitz go and see where the road goes over the cliff edge at Happisburgh? I have happy memories of days walking along the beach or cliffs to Happisburgh as a teenager with my friends when we stayed at her mum's chalets.

Frank I think your knees are better than mine......6 miles!! :-0 I shouldn't imagine there were many wasp-like waists with those huge helpings. lol I've never seen anywhere that gives you up to 3 fish with your chips!! Crikey!! The locals there would think portions were very mean around here. lol.

Forgot to say that we passed The MOD's animal place near Melton when we went for lunch and there were several huge fields, with dozens of thoroughbred horses in them. There were clumps of hay all over the fields so there was no squabbling! I think it is where Sefton, the horseguards horse that was injured on parade in London was retired to. I must see if we can go there when they next have an open day. It's where they train dogs for the 3 armed forces as well.

Oh Mandy, your poor OH, he must feel quite down with his brother and now sister dying as well. Another funeral to go to.

Jane

Jane Report 30 Aug 2013 19:27

Oh Mandy your poor OH.First his Brother and now his Sister :-( :-(.I am so sorry .
Has the funeral happened yet for his Brother? You might have said and I might have missed it.

I keep meaning to ask you if you have ever been to a place called East Ruston Old Vicarage. It is near somewhere called Stalham and not far from Happisburgh.
Fitz went there and it is the most amazing gardens. He was really taken with the place and I want to go now :-D.It is a private home owned by 2 Gay men who bought the place back in the 70's (I think) and they have designed and made the most wonderful place.32 acres of Exotic coastal garden. It can't be too far away from you.

I think i had better get into the kitchen and put the old apron on

Frank Report 30 Aug 2013 19:15

I will try not to bore you with my trip to Hastings, but will try to pick out some bits.

We left on time and had a good trip down the M1 M25. On the A21 there were road works, The Tom Tom directed us onto a Country road, that took us to Battle. Where the Battle of Hasting's started . Nice little place but we didn't stop. Carolyn remembered a nice Carvery where thy had stopped before, and as it was 1.30 pm thought it would be nice to stop and have lunch there. We had Pork, Gammon, and Turkey. with an option of Beef and ale pie. Which John and I settled for. After that and me having a couple of pints., we didn't go out Tuesday night. but had a nice snack of pork pies, ham and Pate with crackers and salad.

Wednesday morning it was decided that we would all go into Hastings. I thought as it's only two miles and all along the sea front (which is nice and flat) I would walk. and meet them where John had given me instructions for. Off I set enjoying the walk.(they went by bus) The area I was to meet was a large square with seats everywhere, Shops, pubs, coffee shops on the perdestrian walk ways. Trust me to find a seat the other end of the square. They did find me in the end. and we set off walking around "NEW HASTINGS" Stalls, market, mass's of shops and arcades. Fishmongers everywhere.
I got the thought of F & C for lunch. We made our way to "MAGGIES" where she serves the best F & C in Hastings, in the area where the Fish Net drying sheds are. Three sizes SMALL MEDIUNM AND LARGE, I watched the meals come out to others before we ordered. The SMALL was a massive piece of FISH with more chips that two or three could eat. The Medium was TWO MASSIVE pieces of fish and the LARGE was THREE pieces of fish. Needless to say we all had SMALL, I decided to walk back along the sea front with John, so in all I must have walked SIX MILES. again we never went out in the evening.

Yesterday John took us to RYDE to go to there weekly market. There were so many people there we kept loosing the women. As they had to stop at every stall, to see what's was available. We finally got out of there and walked back to the car. We had to move it as Ros's badge time was running out.
When we parked again it happened to be outside a smashing pub, with an extensive lunch menu. John decided on Roast beef baggette with salad and onion rings. Ros had a salad with a basket of chips. Carolyn decided she wasn't hungry, and I ordered Ham salad. When it arrived, we almost fell of our seats (outside in the sunshine) There was enough beef and onion rings to feed two or three of us.!! Ros had an enormous basket of chips and a very big salad. I had NINE SLICES of ham carved off the bone and again more salad that I could eat. We shared the Ham chips onion rings all around including Carolyn. The whole lot including three pints Stella, and two drinks for the girls, and coffees for under £40.00 We decided not to go out again last night but had a takeaway (Indian) I was careful what I ate, but we all left loads, that could have feed some starving people

The weather has been wonderful Sunshine from first thing in the morning till sunset at night. Lots of clouds round here tonight.

Forgot to take my camera, so took some on my phone, the trouble is how do I get them off it, onto my computer, and be able to send them to you. ????

Sunny and warm again here ,we have had Jake and Chelsea here for the day so we're both worn out !!

A sad day too as hubby sister passed away early this morning .

Nice to see you back Frank, glad you enjoyed your time away .

I see trouble is back in town :-D.Glad you had a nice time Frank.Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Posh girl here David.I have always called it a Lounge :-D :-D.But I do think most people say Sitting Room.I do think though when I was a tot we had the front room.
It must have been when Mum and Dad bought their first house that it became the lounge. That would have been my Mums idea lol

I got 99 out of a 100 for my teeth today :-D :-D.just the one point knocked off for a bleeding gum :-SYou know I mentioned before that the Dentist Practice was shut for a few weeks because of unforeseen circumstances, well my Dentist has swelling on one side of his face and what looks like a recent scar on his eyebrow on that side. Also his eyelid looked a bit puffy.I wonder if he had had an accident .He isn't the kind of person you could ask either.I am so curious though.

Chris emailed me earlier to say what kind of morning he had had.
4 women patients in tears because of his retirement,a kiss,a hug,and a vintage bottle of champagne !!!!!!!.I think he is beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable with all the weeping lol.But he needs to be prepared for much more.I bumped into Paul (one of the other partners ) and he told me that some of the girls (Nurses etc keep welling up).I know he is getting a bit anxious about it all now .I just told him to make sure he has plenty of tissues close to hand ;-) :-D

I'm just cooking up some cabbage ,onion and bacon to go with sausages later. It smells delicious :-D

David are you remembering to left click where you want to paste to, then right click to click on paste? Try it with something you have written first. Some things I have tried to copy and paste from the internet copy ok, but then won't paste if they don't want them to be copied.

Evening All,

Another lovely day! The Buzzard was swooping really low over the field this morning and I hadn't got my camera handy.

I had a nice stroll around Melton, which is very clean and smart now. It was 30p to use the ladies though......30 x what it used to be! There are loads of charity shops like everywhere else, but with good quality things, but not any more expensive which is good. I decided not to get an authentic Melton Mowbray pork pie from the Dick*nson and Morris shop as I didn't know how long OH was going to be and it was very hot......he wouldn't appreciate food poisoning!! As it turned out he was only an hour and a half which was just right for me to have a good look around. I might go with him next time he goes as well as there is a museum and newly restored art deco cinema I would like to see. We went and had lunch at a garden centre near there afterwards.

Hope you got on ok at the dentist Jane and still have a lovely :-D. I think if Fiona's pics are sent 1 at a time they would be ok if anyone can do that?

Frank it sounds as though you had a really good break that has done you good!

I got an activation email for that site with the soldiers' wills this morning so have applied for OH's grandad's will. Apparently, how it works is the will is available to download after so many working days and then available for a limited time. Presumably you can print it when you download it. There was no trace for 2 of grandma's brothers that were killed in WW1, but I have some other rellies that were killed in wars so will see if I can find those.

Two years in any hospital for any reason is serious Fiona.
I hope she gradually over came her injury.

I know Sunderland quite well although I haven't been there in a while.

A lounge in my vocabulary soulds a tad posh.I've always called same room the sitting room, the comfy room in the house

Hi to you all. I'M BACK.

What a wonderful few days we have had, I will tell you all about it later. The weather was so good, I have only worn shorts and short sleeved shirts. We haven't seen a cloud till this morning before we left.

I came home to 79 EMAILS. Some rubbish which I deleted, others to send on to you later. and Some which I must thank you for. Fiona your garden shed and greenhouse looks an absolute treat, and the pansies look quite strong and I am sure will survive with a little TLC. William I see you have been out and about. The photo's look a treat I had one of those Armstrong Sidley's back in the 60s Very smart car of it's time.

Have read the last page of the thread. Will catch up on the others later, and comment where I think I need too. :-D :-D :-D

Hope you all have been good while Uncle Frank has been away.

See you later.

David, my mum had an accident fell down stairs carrying the hoover, she injured her spine and was in hospital for 2 years , when she and dad got married , she came down to live in Sunderland and they bought a bungalow, so mum wouldn't have to climb stars again.
We had two rooms ,one at the front we called the lounge looked out to the sea and another at the back of the house which was connected to the kitchen it was a sitting room/dinning room, where we had the TV, I used to do my courting when we didn't go out (with my boyfriend who became my OH) in the lounge,. :-D :-D
