Morning All and Evening Kim,

Still no rain here and it's a bit cloudy today but there is plent of blue sky.

Going to Holsworthy market this morning to get some corn and other bits and pieces.

William, I have heard Mardy, Parky we always used when I was young and Dannies or Danners for hands.

Annx

Annx Report 23 Jul 2013 23:58

Interesting William, being of these parts and born in Staffordshire I have heard of them all except two, 'waggin it' and one you have marked ....Jizzup. Of course I only learned about 'batches in 1994!! Mum regularly used the words 'thrape' and 'nesh'. I must test MIL and FIL when I next see them to see if they know them all. MIL came from Eastbourne as a little girl but FIL has lived in Hinckley all of his life.

'Parky', meaning cold was a word I only learned when I moved to Leicestershire.

I've noticed my ankles swelling a bit at the end of these hot days too and I've given up on my rings for now as they seem quite tight.

Frank......I've done your photo and emailed it back.......hope it works now! :-)

One before I toddle off to bed. I recorded Emmerdale for Carmel this evening as we had a visitor this afternoon. We had a late meal then I set the TV to show Emmerdale for her. What did we get - and extended news about the ROYAL BABY. For heavens sake, will we never hear the end of it???

A few days ago Ann mentioned about being in Nuneaton and the batches - or rolls cobs. I had a little book for my birthday A Warwickshire Miscellany, illustrated with Francis Frith photos. Here is the pages on Warwickshire dialect words
Batch - a bread roll
Thrape - to beat or thrash, as in 'given a thraping', given a beating
Gone out - astonished, uncomprehending - 'she looked at me gone out'
Kaggy handed - left-handed
Donnies - hands, especially children
Waggin it - playing truant, skiving
* Nesh - cold, as in 'I'm neshed', I'm freezing
Sneeped - feeling small, belittle, slighted
* Jizzup - the gravy from a pie
Blarting - crying
Mardy - moody, miserable
The cut - the canal
I have heard most of the above since I moved to the Midlands in the mid 50's - but never so far the two I've marked *
My former M-I-L used to say she was 'starving' for meaning she was freezing, but she originated from Measham in Leicestershire.
Be interesting to see who of you have heard of these or similar

Off to beddy byes now, Night night all

Gawd Frank I just realised you said you would send me pic of the Hogs.I thought you asked me to send to you lol .See the brain cells have gone again :-S :-S
I'm off for a nice cool shower now and then straight to bed. Will soak my hair too so it might just cool the Grey Matter down :-D.I might wake refreshed in the morning !!
I hope so ,as I have a friend coming for lunch !! I must have a quick dust in the morning. She hasn't been here for several years.
Signing off now .I hope you all sleep well tonight xxx

Jane

Jane Report 23 Jul 2013 20:08

Frank ,I have forwarded the pic of the Hogs :-D
Raise those ankles above your head :-D They might go down .Maybe a Head stand for a while .My fingers look like sausages and feel really tight.I think we just all feel really uncomfortable ,and we are in for another sticky nights sleep . :-S
It's getting sticky again now .
One of my Sister's dogs escaped today after a big clap of thunder.Luckily they got him back after chasing him in the car.She said he was shaking like a leaf :-(
Oh for cooler days :-D

Frank Report 23 Jul 2013 19:09

Hi all,

Phew, it's hot again. The storm at 11.00 this morning went on for quite a time, but after it left off the patio was steaming, and I was like a wet week. !!!

My ankles are both swollen to twice their size, I thought it only happened to you women :-D :-D :-D Ros's are always coming up, she's on water tablets for it. Mine feel like they are going to burst.

Ann, If I can find the photo I want, I will send it on to you. I don't understand all these PIXIES or whatever you call them. To technical for an old man like me ;-) ;-) ;-)

Jane If I can find it, would you like me to send Mel's photo of the HOGS ??

David, at that price I would have wanted a MASSAGE as well lol.

COME ON YOU GIRLS, You can't blame all this forgetfulness on the weather. You must HAVE other things on your minds.

Fancy finding the price tag stuck to your foot. I hope you didn't tell the sales girl :-0 :-0

I see the NEWS is full of Will and Kate. What else is going on in the world ?? Enough is enough. DID YOU KNOW KATE HAD A BABY AT 4,24 pm YESTERDAY ??

Jane

Jane Report 23 Jul 2013 19:07

Thanks Mel .Got it :-D.They look like they are having a smooch lol
Pat I did actually put a couple of things out and they dried.

Just had a message from Hannah to say the have landed and she will ring n 5 minutes or so .I can't wait to hear from her now :-DIt seems daft when you think she is 30 but this is the longest that I have never spoken to her.

It's been kicking off big time here in the last half an hour.Loads of big cracking thunder and big downpour.I had to rush around the house to shut big windows and wipe down all the sills. But I think it has eased off now.I see on our news that 3 houses were hit by lightening last night and caught fire :-0 :-0 in the county.

Hannah and John are now in a taxi stuck in a traffic jam .Just had a long chat :-D
She said it will take time to get their heads around all they have seen and done. But it was just the most amazing trip. Both on their knees with exhaustion now.She is going to make up an album of pics to put on the computer and they are the ones taken by proper camera and not the mobile phone one.Which are the pics I have had.
Her favourite place was Machu Pichu at sunrise.

Jane Report 23 Jul 2013 17:04

Glad to see I am not the only one Mandy :-D :-D :-D

Is Maureen away? Haven't heard anything from her for a while now :-S
Mandy I don't think I would get on with those Crocs. My feet would sweat too much and I'd be slipping and sliding n them :-S

Oh dear how awful for the girl with the running hair dye.Just a tad embarrassing !

Jane

Jane Report 23 Jul 2013 16:49

I still can't see the hogs :-S :-S.

Ann I was lucky with the beds as I was the only one in the shop today.(thank heavens) .Apparently if I am not happy with the comfort of the mattress it can be returned within 30 days.I think that is pretty good.Guess where I will be sleeping from next monday :-D :-D.Maybe not for the whole 30 days, although Chris might suggest that :-|
I will have to put Mark in James's bed for which ever night he is here at the weekend. It has been airing for a whole week now which is brilliant and this afternoon I just made it up again with nice new pillows and new Duvet.(just for Mark ) then when he goes James will have his old duvet and pillows back on :-D :-D.The new ones will go on the new bed ;-)

Easy quick dinner tonight Southern Fried Chicken and oven chips ,with salad .
Last nights Normandy Pork went down a treat and no ill after effects from being left outside the night before.I must admit I was a bit concerned with it being Pork.
I think it is this heat that is making my brain not work properly, not Dementia like Chris keeps saying :-S :-S.Horrible man lol.He is feeling the heat and humidity today. All he has done in the garden is pull up the second load of Garlic which is hanging up on the Summerhouse. They look good :-D

I am hoping Hannah and John have touched down now.I did get a message earlier to say they had reached Madrid Airport and were waiting for the connection to Heathrow.Their flat is going to be like an oven after being shut up for 2 and a half weeks !!!

Ann I meant to say the plant with red flowers you gave me a few years back are still doing fine although the flowers have been much smaller this year.I don't know why that is.Any idea?

Well it must be the heat , i loaded the washer up yesterday and went off and did a few jobs came back and thought oh washers finished ,took the clothes out and thought well these aren't very clean i'd better put them through another wash ,pulled the draw open and all the powder and comfort was still in there !!! i had selected the programme and hadn't pushed the start button !! :-S :-

Hubby's lip has gone down today , don't want people thinking i'd given him a fat lip !!! :-D

Been out to buy a new pair of slippers ,couldn't find any i liked but i did get another pair of those croc type sandels to slip on for nipping out in the garden , when i got to the till the price ticket had come off so she had to go hunting for another pair for the price, i thought thats funny it was there when i tried them on .....it was only stuck to the bottom of my foot !!! :-D :-D

I saw a funny thing when i parked the car at the shoe place ....this young girl with another girl must have dyed her hair and got wet in a shower of rain ... well i've never seen so much hair dye ,all over her arms ,all over her white t shirt .....bright red it was :-D :-D :-D the other girl with her was putting a pair of rubber gloves on trying to tie her hair up !! :-D :-D

Suns out .

I hate it too Jane, especially trying to sit up and keep your decorum. People walking by always seem to grin at you too!! lol. I often forget to start the washing machine. It's usually when I think I'll go and get another thing to put in it....and get sidetracked. :-S

What a shame Fiona......it sounds like a lovely present too.....you'll have to look everywhere again! :-(

Mel, my pic of the hogs was fine....as you say at least 2 of them......I thought there was a third at first. I wonder if they are a pair! :-)

David we had 2 claims with Barcl*** PPI had 2 really good payments The first one only took a couple of weeks and I think the second about a month or 6 weeks.

Do you feel all lightheaded now :-D Ellen will know she has her handsome hubby back :-D.Thats good all the dressings have been removed.Another step forward.

Mel I can only see a black screen on your emails. The little marker moves across but no pic at all :-S

I have been out and ordered a new bed.I always feel such a twerp lying on these beds in the shop.I even asked for another pillow as the little thin thing they had didn't give you the right feeling of how comfy you would be .I didn't ask for a duvet though lol

Afternoon All,

The storm started properly here at 11.30 pm last night. It carried on all through the night with sheet lighting and downpours, then therain would ease and start again! It woke both of us up several times and didn't fully stop raining and thunder rumbling till just before midday today!! We both said we have never known a storm last this long. The patio and drive and all up the garage and front door is covered with bits off the roof and one of the roads was partly flooded when we went to the carvery at lunchtime. Other roads were 'steaming'. So everything has had a really good watering but now it is unbearably humid. I just did a bit of tidying in the bedroom and had to mop myself down so I'm here with the fan on my ankles now!! :-)

The whole bungalow could do with a good hoover and dust, but s*d that while it's this humid!!

Frank, your new pic probably has too many pixels to load quickly enough. If you like, you can email a copy of the pic you want to use to me and I will copy it and do a version that should load ok. :-) It's up to you if you want to try that......I have had the same problem myself till I have reduced the pixels.

David I bet you feel much cooler and fresher now your hair is cut, more like a human being again. Nice for you to get rid of the hot dressings too. Will you be able to shower or bathe properly now the dressings have gone.....it will be a treat if so.

David

David Report 23 Jul 2013 14:20

Home hair cut last night (tea time) £10.
Looks so mu tidier and feels more comfortable around neck and ears.

Ellen recognises me now.

Had a nurse this morning :)) Took all the dressings off.Says I no longer need them.

Had a letter from Barclays recently about mis sold PPI
Filled the forms in a returned them. Might get a few quid back?

Did you notice that baby was born 41/2 hours before on TV ?
